Complete Newbie

Welcome from the thawing out state of Montana! I like the Fisher F22, it's my second machine, but I think it would be a GREAT beginner detector with the ability to keep up with the intermediate machines as well. I started with a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and to this day it still finds more jewlery and old coins haha but the Fisher is a blast as well!

Hello All, newbie from New Mexico. I have never done any detecting before but I am pretty sure I will like it. It will also get me out of the house and get some exercise besides walking on concrete sidewalks. I have a very bad back and the concrete makes it hurt bad after just a couple of blocks. I read somewhere that the F5 is a good beginner detector and once you get to know the machine it's also a good intermediate detector. So I am planning on ordering one next week.

My first detector was an F5 with DD coil. I found a lot of jewelry with that machine. Good Luck!

Where in NM are you from? SageGrouse here. :D
Be careful with your bad back. Gentle exercise perhaps, but talk to your doctor about it. With metal detecting, it's a hobby that often requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling or crouching, getting back up et cetera and can be harmful if you aren't using proper body mechanics.
Welcome aboard and glad to see another NM resident here. I'm in Santa Fe.

Welcome Gundogger.

Man I love hunting dogs, they are the absolutely best dogs in the world and the most enjoyable to look at in pictures and watch hunt in videos. God made the perfect dogs when he made gun dogs.

My best dog every was a Brittany and now I own a two year old English Springer Spaniel. Impossible to live without a hunting dog.

Nice thing about this hobby there is no rush, and actually slower is better and more enjoyable. I have back and feet issues and I just take my time. Some days my back will only give me an hour or two and just quit. I do think that detecting helps me with my back issue by giving my back a workout especially when bending over and kneeling down to digs. Some times I have to push up with my shovel, but hey, I always have my shovel handy.

There are some really great guys and gals to learn from. they will answer any question, and we were all newbies at one time.
