KT's guess is you got a blue topaz in that 10 K mounting...very stellar condition. Topaz is 8.5 hardness and sapphire is 9 (on the Moh's Scale) so neither would be scratched up. Let us know what it checks out to be.

After taking a good look at the design of your ring it looks like it might be from the Art Deco-Art Noveau Period. If it is then it would most certainly not be a melter.
