Cheap Salt Water Detector????

I have a Beach hunter ID

Like you, I go to the ocean a couple times a year. I hunt fresh water most of the time. Since you are on the east coast you can expect wave and ground falsing to some extent. The west coast has mucho iron, so it's not a good machine for there. The thing is wound up pretty tight and you can't really back down the sens enough. A tad heavy, but works well in wet or dry. If you look at one be sure the gaskets have been updated. Worth sending to the panhandle
for a checkup and pressure test. like most machines used in salt water it should be dismantled and washed clean of salt and sand after each trip.

I'm making a Surf PI, ordering the board and circuitry this week from silverdog. Should be around $150 in the end, we'll see. It isn't for the faint of heart though, not an easy project by a long shot.

Still have to order the stuff for mine. Please post how yours turns out if you don't mind!

I appreciate all of the advice friends. I knew there would be varying viewpoints and I am learning more than I did prior to starting this thread. :gottaluv:

For that kind of scratch you can get a used sovereign series ( as everyone else said) and water proof box it. Even older sov's are awesome machines...

I used a Tesoro sandshark before I got my excel.
worked great in and under salt water. I highly recommend them. it was a $600 machine I use it as a backup machine simple to use too no discrimination you hear a beep you dig and find metal.

In salt water the iron is close to shore 5 feet of the low tide mark everything after that is coins and jewelry. The iron rots fast in the salt
