Cell phones

I have mine clipped to my jeans by force of habit ... Of course, at the beach in my SpeedO's, thats different !

Never had any interference that I know of.

I’ve had a small problem with my phone detecting only in one site. This site is in a valley with bad cell service. I think my phone was searching for the cell tower and thats why it gave me trouble. I would turn it off and the trouble was gone. But this was only at this bad cell site. I know when I’m in a bad cell area it will burn my battery on my phone up fast. I’m guessing it uses more power searching for a tower?
Did you try a noise cancel when you had this happen? TIA

Cell phone use is very much part of my method. I use google maps to bushwhack out to old settler sites.... I need to get a hand held tracker as well..... something I am looking into.

When my iPhone rings, it comes through on my Manticore. I usually just leave it in the truck (the phone, not the Manticore...). But do sometimes carry it, either turned off or maybe in airplane mode, for being able to take a picture or two.

Do you go commando?

No, I do dress appropriately for metal detecting in the woods! Just want to be left alone when I'm out and not worry about the time. No food or water keeps my gear light and forces me to eventually quit! If I brought food and water while detecting, I'd never leave the woods until dark!

I carry my cell everywhere I go for maps and photos if need be. I don't get any interference with my equinox, UNLESS the phone is within a foot or 2 of the control pod. I get some audio feedback when it is too close, both falsing and static.

If I am just using a VLF detector for coin, jewelry and relic hunting, my phone is with me and in normal operating mode. Most of that detecting is in urban/suburban areas where I may need quick access to my phone.

If I am in a remote area and I’m mostly using a pulse induction detector, my phone is with me but it’s switched to airplane mode. I text one of my family members before it goes into airplane mode and text them again when I stop hunting for the day.

My cellphone has never been an issue when I’m using a VLF detector, even these latest simultaneous multi frequency ones. It has definitely been an issue using pulse induction detectors.

I answered her call, and she began yapping about something on and on and on. What is really going on is your wife is talking about something you could care less about hearing. It is a married thing. And on the flip side when I talk about metal detecting, my LP collection, she just half listens (if that) to what I am saying. First six months of marriage, everything your spouse says, you just think is wonderful.

Like above, safety and pics. It always rides in my pants pocket. It never crossed my mind not taking it.
Not tethered to it at all. And don't understand those who are.

I had to get blood drawn today and as the woman ahead of me walked out the door into the waiting room she was already typing on her phone. She couldn't wait ten seconds until she had left the building? I don't understand that.
I surely do don't.
What I don't understand is how these women, especially younger ones can type so fast just using their thumbs. Do they theach iPhone thumb typing in high school or maybe even grade school?

My wife finds my metal detecting talk very boring. I find her constant talk about her work, just as boring. So, one day I said to her, "From now on, it would be fair if for all the time I have to listen (pretend listen lol) to your work talk, you have to spend an equal amount of time listening to my metal detecting talk".

Win-Win. Problem solved :)
