Went to a family's house today, and with frozen toes and fingers I got me my biggest day yet. Seeing how I only spend 1-2 hours MD. Anyhow I spent 2 hours today and all the coins came from around the sidewalk and drive way from this house. I am a little disappointed tho, cause this house should be yielding a lot older finds than these newer coins but then again there is a lot of pull tabs and can slaw to contend with. $2.33 and a six flags token.

They are calling for -15 with the wind chill here tomorrow. I just have to ask, what exactly is bitter cold in TX?

You don't know cold. The high temp here in the tundra was a balmy -12 degrees below zero, the wind chills are at -45 to -50. The winds are what really make it bad. Tonight's low is predicted at a -22 with 35 mile per hour winds. The great thing is they are also predicting temps in 30's for the end of the week. Now that is winter in Wisconsin. Jack

I got called out to work this morning at 5:30 and the wind chill was -54 . I'm sure you'll be ok! We " Up North" people always get a chuckle when somebody from that far south says its cold out. GL and HH

Lived in Maine most of my life, I know cold, I now live in SC, and always laugh at the "cold" these people refer to. Bitter cold tonight, lows at 14 ABOVE, gotta love it, later in the week gonna be back in the mid to upper 50's (60's next week)

Bitter cold in Texas is anything close to freezing. I don't know how or why you guys do the cold up north. I know I couldn't

I was wondering about 'bitter cold' myself.

Live in RI and spent a few days around New Year's up in northern Maine. After a few days snowmobiling in zero degree weather, or colder,20 degrees back home in RI felt down right balmy! It's all relative though. If it gets above 85 I complaign

I had occasion to be in Dallas five years ago this week for the Dallas Safari Club show. Attendees came from all over. Temps went from low 70's on Friday to upper 20's on Sunday. I got a hoot out of all those Texans running around in goose down parkas while those of us from more northern locales were in sweatshirts, and the Canadians were in shorts and upset that the pools were closed!

As a life long Georgia resident I understand the concept of cold, but like most of us in this part of the world I prefer to leave it at that. Having retired from the grocery industry I have spent more than a few hours working in ice cream freezers, where the temp is -20 and there is a constant 60 mph wind in order to keep things frozen solid, as they should be. 20 to 30 mins of that can get your blood really going!! The other half of the story is how do you fellas up in the colder climates think you could handle spending 2-3 hours out in a 110' day? It has gotten to the point that all I need to handle that heat is a clean t-shirt to swap in to when done.

Cause up north is where all the old silver coins is my friend. There soil is a lot richer than ares down here on silver coins aslways has been always will be prolly in r time anyways. About that thing u said u shld be getting older stuff well theres 2 possibly things u got going on. 1 is u gotta get all that newer stuff off the top layer to get to the oldie goodies. Kinda like peeling off some layers or 2 someone done cherry picked most of the good stuff and maybe a #3 depends on what machine ur using. Some starter machines only go down 2 to 4 inches. And btw we had a high of 8 degrees here today and they shut the whole school system down

I'm about 40 miles east of Boise, Idaho. I lived in central Texas from birth (1942) until 2007. I've seen -11 in Texas, -13 here in Idaho. I've seen 109 in Texas and 113 here in Idaho. The difference? Humidity. In Texas, sweating doesn't keep you cool like the dry climate in Idaho. I sat under a tree reading a book here in Idaho when the temp was 111. It didn't seem that hot. I was surprised when I went inside and heard the weather report. The cold doesn't bother me half as much as it did in Texas. In Idaho I've been outside at 2 a.m. with just house shoes, pair of jeans, and a medium weight jacket on for 20 minutes or so and didn't feel uncomfortable.

I absolutely hate August here. I don't do 90's with stinkin humidity! Some get their chuckles in the winter and some get them in the summer. One thing is for sure, there is no place where its 65 all year around . Cause if there was I'd be living it up!

That is exactly right. I now live in Southeast Texas and +23 here feels a LOT colder than the -15 I saw when I lived in Southwest Missouri. The humidity is the reason. You just can't put on enough clothing to keep the cold from penetrating. When I lived in Missouri, if you put on a medium jacket -10 did not feel all that cold but then the humidity was down to around 20%. Just cover exposed skin and you are good to go.

Here in Texas the humidity is currently 45% and 29 degrees and it is good to be indoors!

I've seen the humidity down to 8% several times; and once or twice at 6%!
We got about 2-3 inches of snow last night and more coming; but it might be rain later in the day as it gets to the mid to upper 30s.

Well I've pulled my time on the line at -40F in AK, thank you very much. I can put up with a few days of twenties and a few nights of teens but I am done with much below that. I'll take a/c, ice tea, and na-keed.
