Well it's now on it's way for an appraisal .. so I might know by the end of the week. :-\

After quite a bit more hand polishing, two more shots. I just couldn't resist. ::)

after the evaluation of such beauty must be changed avatar :)

Stunning rings my friend :wow: Keeping my fingers crossed on the appraisal for you. Just an absolutely sweet hunt. One of the best rings I've seen posted :congras:

The Jeweler rang this morning & asked me to visit his store.
There he told me that he had shown a couple of other people my ring, they all agreed that the unusual diamond cuts were "Old European diamond cut" .. This cutting style began to disappear around the turn of the nineteenth century.

So all where in agreement that the ring is probably at least a 100 years old & the diamonds are of an excellent quality.

Anyway the Jewellery shop manager said he was not happy too send such a possible valuable ring away either by post or courier & put himself or his company at risk & suggested that I contact the Valuers myself re shipping or perhaps travel & visit them in person.

I'm going to consider all options whilst still continuing with some research, also as much as I'd like to know it's true value I'm going to take my time with this.
As I live a few hundred miles from the nearest city with a certified valuer this may eventually be the only safe option for me.

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind comments.

I just want to mention something about the beach that I found the ring on,it's definitely not high profile and there are no highrise or condominiums in view.
First it is not a very popular beach nowadays but probably was many years ago.
On the busiest of days you would be lucky to see 100 people there, most weekends no more than 50 & throughout the week perhaps only a handful most days.

The person that unfortunately lost the ring was in the wrong place at the wrong time.:(
Me .. the right place at the right time.

What I'm really trying to say is that anything could be just around the corner and yes luck is a big factor so you just never know what will pop up next .. usually when you least expect it too.

That's what makes our hobby so special .. you just never know.

Great finds

i was really fired up for the beach today and as i entered my favorite little beach today i was immediately aware of a cut about 10 meters from the high tide mark.
All the pebbles & hard pack sand was exposed along the towel line for about 150 to 200 meters.i've not seen this exposed since february 2010 so i just knew it was going to be good.

The very first signal was this huge gold ring with 10 nice sized diamonds,no markings but it tests 18ct easily & the diamonds test real too.weight 8.95 grams.(i'm certainly going to get this professionally checked out)
then over a three hour period i was up & down and up & down the cut. :p

scored over 48 mixed coins , two more 9k heart rings & another decent sized 18ct wedding band, weight on this one 7grams.

So four gold in one day is my best so far, lots of happy dances today and i'm sure i will be back there tomorrow for another look.
Maybe soon have enough for an overseas trip too. ::)
