Big Silver in a Makeup Case

Wouldn't it be neat if we knew the true story behind that Silver Dollar and the case. Did some one give a youngster a silver Dollar and she kept it in her makeup case. I have a silver dollar that my Aunt gave me close to 70 years ago She lived in Ca and would occasionally go to Carson City. She brought me the dollar when she came back east. What I would give to find a silver dollar with my detector.

That Morgan is stunning. I have a MS63 1884 CC and that one looks every bit as good as mine. Fabulous!!

Excellent post. Excellent pix. I love the inclusion of the terrain pix of the parking strip. To give the viewer a sense of the location.

I would classify this as a coin-purse type of find. There were still morgans circulating in the 1950s (heck, up to 1964 in gambling hubs like Reno and Las vegas). So it's entirely conceivable that this was simply someone's change-purse container. Good story. Thanx for sharing.

You're are right about silver dollars still being in circulation back in the late fifties. When I was 7 or 8 years old my aunt took me by to see the doctor who delivered me at my home. He gave me a silver dollar and I spent it all at the fair. Cokes and ice cream cones were a nickel and rides were 5 and 10 cents.

Hey everyone thanks for all your nice comments. They mean so much to me.

Now I know the pictures are sort of a tell and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir but parking strips are the only thing I look for anymore. Even if I find a big wide open park...I head directly to the parking strips around the park especially in neighborhoods that do not have homes in front of them...kind of hard to find but they're all over the place. I use Google street view a ton.

For me the closer I am to the center of a major city the better I do. It's like a bullseye. Closer to where history begins.

Best place to find coins in my experience.
1) permission hunts (I'm too shy to ask)
2) parking strips
3) parks/schools

Parking strips are the next best thing to private property.

Such a cool find!

That pic with the lid opening and you see the reeded edge is a special pic. That's the moment your mind starts racing, the blood starts pumping and you know you found something special! Congrats and thx for sharing!
