How can something immediately be worth twice what you paid for it new? Isn't an appraisal supposed to represent the market price?

For sure a "replacement value" is not what an item will bring on the market. I asked similar questions. However, that figure IS what it would cost to have a similar piece made--materials and labour

In my mind is the ultimate question, where did he find it. Come from the east coast, west coast, Japan? Florida? Lots of unanswered questions and the fellow has not even comeback to see our comments???? What's with that?
Wonder if it was a beach find? Is he a water hunter?
