Best Detector for gold, jewelry, coins, etc...

I was in a similar situation when looking for a dry sand machine, I wanted one with somewhat high operating frequency so it is sensitive to smaller gold (earring backs, pencil lead thick gold chains, etc.), but also wanted deep. It was between the AT Gold, Tejon, Gold Bug Pro, and Vista Gold.

After a ton of research, the only 2 that seemed to have the sensitivity and the amazing depth, were the Tejon and the Vista Gold. I went with the Tejon and I love it, but damn that Vista Gold looks like a beast. AT Gold would have been cool too with the screen and water resistant... but doesn't seem especially deep.

My vote is for Tejon or Vista Gold. Both run at pretty high frequency (17.5khz and 25khz respectively), but also run super hot to maintain amazing depth on larger objects.

The 705 can run 18.75kHz, then turn around and with a 3kHz coil be hammering copper and silver. And the new Coiltek coils are HOT!

Another Xterra Vote +1

I started with the 705 Gold Pack (over the standard), for the exact reason Longhair mentioned (the more expensive 18.75 DD coil)! Since the 705 is a MD that can be can be adapted to different hunting areas and targets by changing the frequencies of the machine with the different coils, having many different coils is a big advantage! The 2 coil dual pack and Bart's Extras, looks like a great Package to me! Most Sponsors give a discount to Friendly Forum members also. Give him a call and see what he can do for you!!! Good Luck and Happy Hunting,,,,, Pat

Bart can also answer your questions about which machine is best for you. And he would be impartial, considering he can sell you either, there would be no reason for him to tell you one is better unless it is. Give him a call. When you are ready to buy call around and get prices, you may end up buying from Bart, he has some good deals.

You'll find most on the forum promote the machine they use.

Oh! The Lesche is good for digging, but I have one and don't recommend it for areas where you need really clean plugs. The serrated edge doesn't allow for that.

I think I'm going to have to give this Bart guy a call, his name has popped up more than once! I found a great deal on colonialmetaldetectors.com that has the two coil pack, a lesche, a pro pointer, and headphones for around 880. Thought that was an awesome deal.

You can't really go by the advertised prices of any dealer. They are all bound by the companies' "Minimum Advertised Price" policies, but if you call them and tell them you're a forum member you'll get a better deal regardless of the vendor.
Call around to the sponsors, see which one has the products that you want for a price you're willing to pay.

Finally picked up a package! I called Bart at big boys hobbies and got the ML Xterra 705 2 coil pack with pro pointer, two coil covers, and a lesche digger. Now all i need are some headphones, and a finds pouch and I'm good to go!

Cool! :waytogo: You'll like that machine!
Which two coils did you get?

:dingding: Congrats!!!! Great choice. You heard about the rest but you bought the best

I was going to get the two coil pack but the Minelab elliptical isn't waterproof and I wanted a waterproof coil so I got the standard 7.5 kHz concentric kit and then added a NEL Sharpshooter 18.75 kHz. The NEL hits hard on small pieces of gold jewelry, I haven't had a chance to try it prospecting in Colorado but I'm going to head up there this summer with it and see how it does.

The thing is, if you want the thin pieces of jewelry you have to slow down and you really should dig the spitty sounding targets too. I found a 10k bracelet that was spitty, it made a sound like spit-wahhh-wahhh-spit is the best way I can describe it.

I came home and buried the same target and tried it with my White's machines and they made a totally different sound, more like, *crackle* *crackle* toneeeeeeee *crackle* *crackle*.

As you swing your new detector you'll get to know all the sounds it makes with the various targets. That's half the fun of the whole hobby, trying to figure out what's down there before you dig it up.
