Congrats on Big Ben!!!
Skippy, we still have to figure out how to link up with all of you ring finds. RainorShine indicated that you two have talked...would love to figure out a hunt one day. You get me on the Yella and I will give you the ring spoon to make up for your loss
Your still running that hot steak Paul and I'm loving it. Congrats on getting that White Whale with the Franklin Half. The Sterling Spoon Ring is also a very neat find. Keep the finds coming. Trapper
NICE !!!! I've never found a Franklin either...in 36 years of detecting. Have found everything around it but still waiting for a Franklin.
Congrats on a great find. I’m sure seeing big silver had your heart pounding! Keep up the good work.
Congrats on Big Ben!!!
Really, it's just about knowing where to look. For example, yesterday, I was searching google maps for a new place to detect. I found a community pool house that had a volleyball court next to it. But the court/pool were visible from a main road. I figured that would not likely be a place for many people to detect, because 1) it was a small area, and 2) they'd think it was hit all the time.
I pulled into the small parking lot (8 spots), and got out and walked the 20 yards to the volleyball court. In the first 10 targets, in this order:
Penny
Junk Ring
Junk Ring
Junk Ring
Junk Ring
Junk Ring
Junk Ring
Silver Ring
Dime
Pop top
It just made me laugh! I almost went home after that (I'd detected for no more than 15 minutes at that point, going around the volleyball court once), but decided to work another round outward (found a couple bucks in change) and the field next to it, and try some heavily hit areas I usually visit in the summer. I pulled a couple of bucks more in clad, but no more rings. 90% of ring finding is getting in a location where you can put yourself over the top of them.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it's a bust. But consistency in looking is the key. For example, I got fortunate, yesterday in finding that location that clearly hadn't been hit in a while (they were all in an inch of the surface). But the other hotspot locations I visited were completely dry. I try to hit one "new" spot each time out, and then revisit others. it pays off in the long run.
In the summer, I have a "round" I do once a week. it takes 45 minutes in that park, but over the 16-20 weeks/times I visit, I pull about 6-10 rings. It's worth it. Can I guarantee I'll find one? nope. but a 30% shot isn't bad. :0)
Skippy
Congrats.
