Behold SOVZILLA - Waterproof Sovereign XS-2A Pro - Pic Heavy

Vent Hole??

Bob you have done a fine job modifying the case for this project!

I am putting one together too and excited about using my GT without having to worry about splashing!

The Plano case is very well constructed and garranteed to withstand 1-meteer for 20 minutes of dunking. (splashing the GT should be no problem!)

I would like to have some ensight from yourself and others about this vent hole in the case!!

There is a rubber seal on the main locking catch to block the hole, but ------------------------------------? (Sorry for the fuzzy pic!)

Not once in all the posts etc I have read is it mentioned and I am inclined to seal it to trap a little positive pressure in the case!

Any thoughts about this?

Regards,

CJ

Mine does not have that hole behind the latch. Personally I would probably seal it up with Marine Epoxy to be sure it does not leak.

EDIT - WRONG I AM - It does have the hole but it is barely large enough for a large paperclip end to pass through. I think the rubber pad on the latch will do a good enough job of sealing it.

Going out this afternoon at low tide and will let you know!

Took SovZilla out for a spin in our West Coast lane yesterday. (also known as the Pacific Ocean)...

Low tide, light waves. Little beast performed well, took several good splashes and stayed dry as a bone.

Only problem is that I wished I would have set the discrim better before I closed the box (getting lots of foil when I hunted the dry sand).. An external control for that would be nice to avoid having to open up the box again.

I was NOT satisfied with the Auvio wireless headphone connection.. lots of popping in and out, like the connection was flaky. It was ok, but quite annoying.
Will try the wired headphones next time.

This mod accomplished everything I had hoped it would. Just need a straight shaft. The S Shaft with no detector on it is unbalanced and it tired me out after about 3 hours hunting.

No gold to show.. found a spur (what that was doing on the beach I have no idea.. no horses are there) and about 70 cents change as well as lots of 40 ounce tops.

pinpoint mod

Did you ever finish your pinpoint mod and what did you do for waterproofing your extended coil cables? I just bought one just like yours and interested in changing coils but keeping the connection waterproof. Minelab coil cables are just to short if i want to throw it in my backpack.
That looks great! I just finished up an Explorer XS same idea. I used the Auvio wireless as well however, I just orded a pair of Grey Ghost. I'm hooked on the Mod's, next mod will be add a pin point switch to shaft.

I have two w/p Explorers and found $6 Liquid Tape (Home Depot, Electric Aisle) is plenty reliable. Otherwise not sure what connections or connection covers work for under a $100. Keep in mind, when we say waterproof, it is more like splash proof as I don't take them more than a few feet under.

Big thanks to Max for info on the box, Goodmore for various info, OldBeechnut, and VBDave who helped me with decisions related to this project. Also NEBeachcomber (from another forum).

Remember -this is not for dunking/diving, only for use where waves might splash the unit. It can go under with no problem, but that's not the point. ;)

Easy project - will fit all models of Minelab Sovereign, about $65 invested in all.

I had a gt in a Plano like that for 2 years. And in an outa water. Straight up...not one problem with leaks ever. You did nice work on yours. Looks like it would hold up to full blown water hunt. Hh gl-Joe

Being 8 years ago on the original post I would say they just set it and dealt with it. Most who use those only hunted the wetsand so it was just a matter of learning what settings were needed to hunt each beach. I did one similar back then..

I had 1 for the sl. It could float/attach to the sifter or chest mounted. Tried it with the plano box for in water and the waterproof bag for shallow water. Need a coil that you can remove the connector, slide it through the box and then reattach the connector. I had photos on another site but pretty sure they're gone now

I for one applaud anyone who can do this stuff. But.... an Xcal offers the same depth doesnt it? Ive seen Mel Parkers machines with digital read out ..... have you thought about that?
