Beachhunter ID met a watery grave and I am thinking of selling some of my antique clocks to get something else...Any thoughts?

George,

I hear ya brotha! I sold my last of 7 GTO’s, a beautiful 1969 Ram Air III Judge to move to Florida and it hurt horribly at first. It took me 5 years to restore it and I still think about it. I must say, because of that horrible day, I have enjoyed living here in FL for 14 years, met my wife here, had kids here, and many other wonderful things that I have to count my blessings. Life has a way of working out but truly in the grand scheme of things, cars, clocks, coins, it’s all just stuff....the material things will come and go but the memories that go along with that stuff will last a lifetime, that is if I don’t end up with some horrible disease like dementia or Alzheimer’s. After being in a business where I saw lives cut short on a daily basis, I have learned to cherish every moment on this Earth and live it to fullest extent possible. Follow your dreams, find your passions and just enjoy every moment you have in this life because it goes by way to quickly.

Sorry y’all, I’ll get off my soapbox now 😁

Eric

That sums it up beautifully Eric!...You got your head screwed on straight!..All the best Brother!

I'd sell the clocks right away and buy your water detector.

You can't take materials to the grave with you. Enjoy life in the now.

I do this all the time. You'll see too you may sell some clocks but then one day some clocks come back to you. It's like one door closes and one opens theory.

Without sentimental value, what would you enjoy more, swinging a new detector or looking at a clock. You know what time it is.

I have one clock in my collection. It's from My Great Grandfather's paddle wheel boat he built from WWII surplus bridge pontoons. It spent many years on Lake Tippeccanoe in Indiana. The family story says that if the pontoons were war damaged they could be bought for scrap price. They weren't damaged, but supposedly he bribed somebody and used his 38 to put some war damage on them. This may not be true I come from a long line of liars who don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Get the Nox!! Since purchasing mine, I have not even turned my MXT on!! It’s been gathering dust!! I have zero regrets in buying mine!!

You could probably find a good deal on a used excal because people are running to get an equinox. I always go against the flow.

So for the 2nd time in its life, my beachhunter has leaked and given up the ghost. I could send it to Whites to fix again but rather than spend the money for the second time and possibly end up in the same sinking ship again, it may be time to move on to bigger and better things.

I have always wanted the Excalibur because of the seemingly positive response from those who own one but the price tag, according to the wife, is not justifiable. So that brings me to this, one of my other hobbies may have to assist me in buying a new detector. I have a fairly large antique clock collection that could stand to be thinned a bit but I also have a fair sized collection of coins too. While I’m not entirely excited to have to use one to pay for another, it may be my only option.

So I present to you fine folks my dilemma, would you liquidate some clocks or some coins to continue to pursue your passion of metal detecting in the water or would you just stick to using your dirt fishing detector and forget about the water hunting?

For those of you with the Excalibur, does it work well on land as well as the water and does it break down enough to pack in a carry on bag to bring with me on my trips? I currently bring the MXT and it breaks down fairly well but the box and screen do take up a quite a bit of room.

I appreciate any and all comments regarding this unfortunate situation. 😁

Eric

I've liquidated finds from Metal detecting to fund other collections (selling gold rings, using the change, etc.), and even re-sold some of those collections to re-fund the metal detecting hobby. Most recently, I "Liquidated" some 1800's coins, which I'll probably replace again, at some point. LOL

So. YES. My vote is to liquidate. You could also do, what I've begun doing, and pay with Paypal credit. That gives you 6 months to pay stuff off without interest. I bought my AT Max on paypal credit, and paid it off with my finds (and eventual sale of my AT Pro). Gives some time to figure out how "much" you need to liquidate. At the 4.5 month mark, you'll know if you even need to sell anything. Gives you time to go use your new toy.

Regards,

Skippy

if you have to sell dump the coins
clocks are a good item
and go UP in value..
i have a old german howard miller i paid $5k for it
every joker has coins but craftsman ship will never repete it self LIKE CLOCKS :wow:

Scooterjim, that’s a nice Chelsea you got there! They are neat clocks, will run anywhere. 👍

Needler, so true!! Back when I was in the clock business, I would run across clicks at estate sales that looked very familiar to me, only to find out I owned it at one time and I’d buy them back just to sell them again.

Vegas, I love old Grandfather clocks. We have 7 scattered throughout the house and I could never bring myself to get rid of.

I have a friend that owns an antique shop in Arcadia FL, the antique Mecca of South Florida. She said I can bring my clocks in there to sell them and she’d take 10% of the sale price. Not a bad deal, I am bringing some there this morning.

I’m probably gonna throw some old coins and jewelry finds in there too just to see if there are any takers.

Hopefully I’ll be in the water soon! I guess I’m going to have to do some more research, the Nox 800 seems legit as does the Excal 2. There just too dang many choices!

Sell a few clocks and get the excal.

Yep! "Time and Gold wait for nobody!" Time and Gold are both cruel and fickle mistresses!..Choice between the two? I'd go for the Gold...Reason is, Time is fleeting and limited, Gold is out there waiting for somebody to come along...Clocks are Man made mechanical constraints to remind you that you dont have much of it left...Gold is Timeless...

Love that Chelsea clock. Wound them hundreds and possibly thousands of times during my 20 in the Navy.
