electrolysis
Hey didn't see your visitor message til earlier today, I have used baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) but washing soda (sodium carbonate) is recommended, at about a tablespoon per gallon of water. The sodium carbonate I use is actually left over ph+ for swimming pool use, but it's the same thing. I use an old 12V battery charger and an old shovel for the anode. Look here http://www.rickswoodshopcreations.com/Miscellaneous/Rust_Removal.htm for more info.
I often use ospho or similar products for a conversion coating to help convert/prevent rust on cleaned tools, and coat with machine oil, mineral oil, or paste wax.
Cool axe by the way!
Turtlefoot - what do you use in your electrolysis (washing soda/powder, baking soda, salt?) and in what ratio? I'm using a 5 gallon bucket right now but can't seem to get consistent results.
What do you use to power your setup? I'm using a newer type battery charger but have to put a 'junk' battery inline with the system so that the 'smart' charger will work. Usually run it at 12 volts and (I think) 10 amps.
