Hello. I own a fisher F2. I may be having problems with the detector and don't know what to do. First, the last dozen or so signals produced,nothing in the hole. Also, when pressing the pinpointer the pinpoint buzzer will go off regardless of where I aim the detector. Is anyone with an F2 having this problem?
Hey Joe...
Here's what I would do...to get going....
Change your batteries, regardless if you think they're new and good.
Re-seat your Coil connection. You might need a pair of bent nosed pliers to get it tight. It MUST be tight.
Lose you Cell phone, keep it in your car.
Remove those steel toed boots, wear something else.
Make sure you bring your hand-held pin pointer.
Set your Sensitivity on no more than 3 bars.
Notch out everything BUT Nickel, Dime and Qtrs.
Either place your OWN target, or go find one. (really)
Now, sweeping no more than 12" in all directions (east, west, north and south) You should be able to accurately determine WHERE the target is.
Verify you have a valid target by sweeping at 90 degree angles to it, and with a repeatable, consistent VD number on your screen.
Now, Repeat the sweep, but this time press and hold the Pinpoint button. Your LCD screen should look something like this.
+ + + + + ++05 + + + + +
+ + + + + ++04 + + + + +
+ + + + + ++03 + + + + +
05 04 03 + + + + 03 04 05
+ + + + + + 03 + + + + +
+ + + + + + 04 + + + + +
+ + + + + + 05 + + + + +
EDIT...^this isn't posting correctly ^ the numbers should line up in a + shape, going from lower numbers in the middle to higher numbers going outwards.
Your target should be dead center as indicated by the #'s getting larger as you move your MD further away from the target.
Once your MD ic centered, go ahead and lower it all the way to the ground.(Your Pinpoint button is STILL pressed btw. If you FINAL number is 03, that means your target is dead center of your coil, and 3 inches under. (I add an inch in very moist or sandy soil)
Dig your plug three inches deep, grab your hand-held pin pointer and start probing. The Fisher pointer has to be VERY close, about 1/4 inch, or sometimes even touching the target to signal. The Garrett Pro pointer will signal when you're half a block away...( lol..this is a JOKE)
Targets can be hard to find...for me, a hand-held is a necessity..not an option.
If you still can't find your target, get up and sweep your plug, and your hole. Where does the MD say it is? If it's in the plug, as your MD says it is, start probing the entire plug again with your hand-held. If its in your hole, then dig out some more dirt, and scan the dirt, not the hole...repeat if you still can't find it.
This is how I started to learn....as you get to know the F2...it'll get easier...and faster..and you'll turn UP the sensitivity and Notch out only Iron.......I'm only two weeks into this and I learn everyday...
Good luck...
