Anyone tried this custom digger?

Profit is hummm - buggg

I suspect he can make a tool like that, EXACTLY like that, and sell it for half and still make double as pure profit because, as good as this tool really is, George Lesche doesn't have a corner on the market for such tools if someone has the proper machine(s) to make one.

Well now, you make a funny:laughing:........... I would suspect there's a whole Lotta manufactures of every kind of product imaginable including metal detectors that can manufacture and sell products cheaper than their list price/or retail price. But good luck getting them to do that !

Ahhh, so you didn't really follow this thread did you? I suspect HiDesertHunter has every intention of making one and he already said $70 for the George Lesche one is way overpriced. 2+2=4 still.

Lipstick on a pig ! 2+2=4 of what? pot metal scrap-~^*` what? Quality is quality can't dance arround it .... Oh you can try your best to imitate and remember there is more to it than just looking like the real thing. There is metal strength and ability to hold an edge, not bend or snap ! If a man has all the tools to create , have at it ! But have the tools that can check the qualities are the same as/or better than what is being copied as equal.

But there is not much to the 'real thing' - it is a section of formed sheet metal, shaped and sharpened with a simple handle welded on it. This is metal fab 101 - no high-end engineering or CNC processes required for this. I remember building a dust pan in my 7th grade metal shop class that was more involved - and I still have it and use it daily. I also doubt the qualities are being checked as suggested and I don't believe the steel used is anything particularly exotic. Personally I am considering stainless for mine and forgoing paint which is unnecessary for a digging tool.

Its not just run off the line "formed sheet metal " it is tempered metal, light in over-all weight, but yet extremly strong ( i believe air-craft quality metal types) that is used in these high-end tools ! Now, I'm not saying that you or anyone might not have a professional shop that has the ability to build this kind of quality tools? But most of us, just have work shops in our garages and lack the heat treating furnace and other high-end machines as the manufactures that produce these products (Predator Tools). However, the bottom line is "just cause it looks real good, its whats under the hood that counts!!"

Well, when you make one let me know and have a lot of pics because I think if you can sell it for 35 or 40 you would have a phenomenal success and honestly I think it could easily be done.

Just looking at the materials involved, and the one weld, hell, 10-15 minutes and it would be completely done if done by hand if done by machine a few seconds but his is done by hand so hand for hand.

High Quality does come at a price !

"All handles and blades are aircraft quality 4130 chrome molly virgin steel.
Heat Treated and Tempered, making it the Highest quality made!" Also WITH A FIVE YEAR WARRANTY !!! Good luck trying to copy that !!!

Only small people with small minds would think that only one person in this entire world could come up with a digger with those exact stats and warranty.

Just sayin'

If you think someone is going to build the same exact quality digger tools as Pedator Tools and sell them to you and the rest of the world for 30-40 bucks ? Your truely in for a "DarkPrognosis" reallity check/up !!

Well CM is no doubt the superior material for aircraft applications but since I will not be flying this thing I am thinking 440 stainless might work well. I may even experiment with making one out of 6061 aluminum but I don't think it will hold an edge very well but might work OK in soft, non rocky ground such as parks or other manicured lots. Hey this is just another project on the 'drawing board' - much like a very unique plug cutter I have been working on (and off) with for a few years. If I can get it to work like I want I might have a very marketable product - but it is not quite there yet.

Never sell yourself short !

HighDesertHunter, Hey more power to you for designing and building quality type diggers ! All I'm saying to Mr.Prognosis is Quality materials and workmanship that can produce a fine finished Quality digger, cost $$$ both in the materials used and the lasting workmanship of a great product. So if you do invest in the higher-end metals and materials along with quality workmanship, don't sell yourself short ($35-40) !!! Remember, true Quality comands a price ! Best of luck in your adventures!

Even if the sob was $50-55 it would be less than his. Just because of his name is why the prices are what they are. Heck, that is what is wrong with the Lesche tools and since George is no longer part of that group I wouldn't touch anything they made not even if someone was going to give me one. They can go pound sand out of every orifice they have before they see one red cent from me.

George is a good enough guy and his tools are okay (I don't like that weld and I don't care how many testimonials come flying in here saying their weld has held up I simply would not want a weld on my digger) but he likes a killer profit and maybe his greed is more than HiDesertHunters. Material cost is only 10% of a normal product's end price.

News for a darkprognosis !! The doctor has finally discovered your real problem, "sand in the orifice" !! Sorry your terminal !!! Only a Predator Tool can dig all that sand from within, however he has turned down the surgery? Rest in peace
