Anyone carry a pistol while detecting?

In the case of the two legged kind. You definately need protection within the laws. If you get busted in the wrong you could end up goin away for a while. And most any crime that involves a gun is a felony. But the two legged snakes are the ones to fear. And hunting in the woods. Keep in mind that those snakes are producing everything like moonshine, pot, meth, and who knows what else in those woods. Even in our national park system. So its not just down town where you might need protection. But make sure you stay on the right side of the law.

I love my North American Arms mini .22 with birdshot loads for snakes. Never stepped on one yet, seldom if ever seen one either. I carry it with two rounds birdshot followed by three .22 solids. An automatic likely wouldn't even cycle the action with birdshot. Snakes like me no more than I like them, so I do my best to give em' the right of way rather than shoot them, never shot one yet.

I have a concealed carry permit, but seldom carry the 9mm unless going into a rough neighborhood. I don't go to rough neighborhoods unless I have to, and I surely won't go digging for clad in parks in dangerous neighborhoods - just not worth it. Too many safer areas for me to hunt.

I look at it this way.......
Rule #1 in how to win a gunfight:
Bring your gun.

(a digging tool is a most honorable weapon, IMHO, but still not my first choice in a gunfight!)

i am so very sorry, i fear we are headed the same way, this is horrible.

No need to be sorry I for one think it´s a good rule, We have in Iceland about 3 murders a year. Last one was the weapon of choise waffle iron. Now I cant be sure about if it´s becuase of guns or not but I can say that the police has never had to use firearms and in our history the swat has never fired a weapon.

About two years ago the state troopers here (locally) shot and killed an unruly chap with a "weapon". It was a rake. He was standing in the street, wielding it in "a menacing manner"... All three officers fired upon him when the mentally unstable perp refused to drop his "weapon".

Sigh.......... I need to start saving clad toward a house further in the woods where the only animals I need to worry about are bears, dogs, coyotes, and snakes. The two legged variety of "civilized" creatures are far more dangerous than the "wild animals", with all the drugs, alcohol problems, and mentally unstable characters that roam around. I've never yet had a coyote or other animal hanging around looking to steal stuff to sell for crack money. I see many posts about the unsavory characters that keep people from detecting certain parks, or areas. It's not so much a gun problem as it is a problem with society here.

Watch out for them hogs, I got 45 stitches in the backside of my leg when attacked by a mad boar with 3 inch tusks when I was young.:gaah: Wouldn't have had time to shoot him though, I never saw him coming.

I have been carrying concealed (licensed) for thirty years, I have over 300 hours of training in firearms use and the law. I believe in the individual right (as affirmed by the Supreme Court) to defend myself in this manner. Normally, I depend on my skills in diplomacy and friendly demeanor to avoid conflict - and it works most of the time. For the times it may or will not work, I am confident in my equipment and ability to quickly employ self defense. I have never had to shoot a snake, although I have encountered rattlesnakes, copperheads, cottonmouths and coral snakes. RickO

About a month ago a guy got shot by someone he didnt know just for filling his tank at a gas station. About a week ago a guy got shot over a pack of cigerettes. I have a lifetime cwp and never leave home without a firearm. When firearms are outlawed only outlaws will have firearms.

Yup!

When I'm in the woods or state land far away from populated areas, remmy 870 in a shotgun scabboard. 12ga will take care of most threats although not very compact. The mere sight can be a deterrent.
No need to carry when I'm in town or school MD. Many would be surpised at what one can do with a good digging tool.

Lots of funny replies to this thread but I nominate this for the best.

Waffle irons dont kill people, waffles and all that butter does.

When waffle irons are outlawed only Dennys will have waffle irons...

This is my weapon of choice for any type of "snake". It will shoot either a .45 or a .410 shot gun shell....I load it with both....every other shot.....

We're not allowed to carry over here, unless one's a bank manager or you're headed to the firing range. Higher top boots is always a good idea.....especially for hunting wooded areas and farm fields. My hunting boots have been the basic rubber boot (about fifteen inches high) for the last three years or so. They're perfect for wet or dry and inexpensive to replace.

I was thinkin about upgrading my 32 cal
derringer to something with more stopping
power so I dont have to worry about them
low life snakes.

First, I was thinkin about this Dryer Negwt
pistol,

Or maybe I should make sure I have enough
boom to stop one of them low life slithering
monsters,
