I just bought the Nox and it’s backlit. Seems like a night hunt might be in order after special events. Anyone hunt beaches or parks at night?

I do a little bit. But mostly because I often get a late start and winter gets dark fast. I always bring a headlamp because my Garrett is not backlit. My best Gold find ever was yesterday after dark. If I had quit because of dark, I would not have a gold ring with diamonds. :O

I’ve done beach hunting at night and enjoy that a lot since there are few others out there, and I’ve hit tot-lots on my way to work at 6am in the dark.

I hunt at night quite a bit. Nice and quiet. I use very little light. Most if the time I'm not really sure what I have until I get home.

Almost always hunt late at night or early early morning. Nice and quiet.

Don't use any headlights, or backlights on your detector . Instead: Let your eyes adjust to the moonlight and starlight (hunt on full-ish moon nights).

If you use ANY kind of light (or if your detector emits a glow) , then the pupils of your eyes will adjust to *just* that beam of light. You will grow blind to everything else around you.

There's plenty of light from moon/stars (on full-ish moon nights) to see where you're swinging. I carry a penlight flashlight on a lanyard around my neck, in case I need to see the dates on the gold coins I find :laughing:

Good thing about the Nox 800 is the low light setting isn't bad. I can still see my grid lines. Set on high you can't see your hand at night:lol:

Yeah the backlight on the ctx is super bright, actually hurts my eyes when I use it at night. I usually keep it off and go by the sounds the detector makes, and if I hear a high tone I turn on my headlamp (on dim) for the dig

I don't hunt at night but do hunt early mornings when possible. There aren't many people around in the early hours so there's a lot of privacy and no one bothering me. The night time is full of stinkin' mosquitoes and even in the good parts of town the risk of meeting undesirable types increases.

Hunted both dirt and sand at night many, many times. Not worried about what I see, it's what I heard I was after. Just be wary of needles. Found my share in the sand and you wouldn't wanna get pricked by one.

I get up at 4 or 5 a.m. and go beeping in the dark all the time before work. Last summer, when it stayed light until 9 p.m., I went after work. My girlfriend's sister got me a ridiculously bright headlamp for Christmas...I explained that a small red penlight is all I use, because I don't want to stand out like a lighthouse while I'm out scanning soccer/football/baseball fields. And I wish the AT Max's backlight were adjustable, because it is super bright in the darkness.

Like somebody else said, I normally just find the target and put it in my pouch and worry about the ID when I get home.

I only use the pen light on low while digging. Red would be better but I always have this one on me. The trx pinpointer light isnt near bright enough. The few people out from 2-5am are usually just trying to get home although there are always the lowlife to watch out for. I don't wear headphones and also carry..

I probably wouldn't if I lived in an area where there are poisonous snakes, scorpions, or other nasty creatures lurking about, but that's just me :hornetsnest:

On Florida beaches you can't use lights at night on the beach during turtle nesting season.

I have hunted the beach at night but I can not get comfortable. Not being able to see the potential trouble until too late bothers me. I do not trust people that much. In the summer in the south it is much more comfortable.

I've beach hunted with a headlamp. My eyes aren't that great anymore so I prefer day hunts now. I'm probably the only guy that takes longer to find a penny out of the hole than it took to get it out of the hole. :lol
Just got the Carrot for Christmas, hoping this cuts down on recovery time.
