Anniversary at Gettysburg and relic finds

nice finds. I have only been to Gettysburg once and have plans to take my wife and kids at some point in the near future. Let me know if you ever want a partner to go with you to the Cavalry camp. I live in Spotsylvania and would love to hunt a site like that. Not many places near me that I know of to detect that aren't on private property or in a battlefield.

+1 on the nice finds!

I was there yesterday - I took my brother who lives out of town.

We physically walked across the field where the N. Virginians faced up against MA during Picket's charge. Actually walking the field gave me a new perspective on what these men faced. It was also interesting to walk the ridge at Little Round Top to get the Union perspective. There is a rock there by the NY memorial (the "castle" monument) that notes where a Col was shot. Then, you drive down across the valley to Devil's Den and check out the confederate sniper vantage points. I looked up from one towards the rear of Devil's Den and saw that same rock where the Col fell (this was where the plaque is located that discusses the "staged" photo that was taken after the battle).

I couldn't help but constantly wonder what was 2" to 8" below my toes...

You know, if you lived there how would that work? The town itself is park property right? If I live there and I'm going to detect somewhere outside of NPS property, obviously I'm gonna put my detector in the trunk and drive there. What if I get stopped and they see it? Every road in and out of town is on park property.

Great point...makes sense. So, how do you figure out where you are/aren't allowed to detect? I'm assuming it would have to be on private property with permission from the owner.

Where did you stay? My wife and I went for our honeymoon to Gettysburg and I did some relic hunting, etc. Found my 12lb cannon ball there too.

We stayed at the Cashtown Inn, the A.P. Hill room (supposedly haunted). It was quite fun, looking to go back soon! Nice finds!!

lol, Cashtown Inn! I live 2 houses up from the Cashtown Inn. My house was built in 1860....the white house beside the cashtown in was built around 1940.... yet its in all the cashtown civil war paintings. mine was a one room cabin when they all marched by. I was born and raised behind round top. ive lived in cashtown for 20 years now. found a nice file knife behind the cashtown inn last year on the hill.

Nice finds. That Gettysburg tour of the battle fields is great.
