And the first used Deus 2 hits the classifieds

Guess their lawyers wrote the first warranty. They must have figured out that you have to give some sort of guarantee when you're fleecing someone for 1600 bucks for a detector that costs 100 bucks to make...

You also have to figure in software development cost. And as a software engineer, I wouldn't be surprised if that outweighs the hardware cost several times over.

Unless XP has changed their prices since the Deus 1, dealers are making an absolute killing. I had almost started as a dealer with most of the manufacturers, and XP's price to the dealer had my mouth on the floor compared to what dealers were selling them at. Even if you had a dealer selling them significantly cheaper the markups were huge.

I just bought an 800 a few days ago for $805, with free shipping and no tax(Oregon), despite the new $999 retail price and the retailer didn’t even blink. That was the price I told them I would pay, so I guess I should have asked for a lower price than that.

Mine was preordered for $1529 shipped and came with a free MI-6 pinpointer ($160 value).

I doubt you’ll find many over-the-phone discounts until all the orders are filled and they get plenty of stock on the shelves. Might be a while.

True, that does add to the cost.

How much was an Etrac 10 years ago? How much is a CTX now? Not that I am overly interested in the Deus II anymore, but if I was $1,500-$1600 does not seem that out of line to me. How much value has the U.S. dollar lost lately from excessive printing.

There is...but the question is do I want to dig it? For me no...but for younger people getting into the hobby...yes. 20-30 years ago I dug the clad like there's no tomorrow and paid for my detectors several times over, but now, pushing 60, I'd rather spend my time finding historical stuff.

Same here. Civil War relics, silver coins and maybe some rings. That is about it for me. I can find clad laying on the pavement in park parking lots.

Reminds me of the price of guitars nowadays. They charge whatever people are willing to pay. I see young guitar players paying $3,000 for the same guitar I paid $1,400 for just 5 years ago. I think what could possibly make a $1,400 guitar worth $3,000? Simple answer, because people will pay it.
