i was watching american digger and when the old man finds a a crushed beer can and he throws it off into the woods,i couldnt stop laughing that he threw the can,i bet we all did that in frustration ,i used to do it in the begining until i hit my buddy in the face with scrap metal and i dont throw trash anymore! now i hunt by myself and almost hit a stranger with a can that was watching over my shoulder i dint know about and when i dug the can from a 12 inch hole i was so mad and about to throw the can, then i turned and saw the wide eyed old man sayin what did you find, that was close,i wouldve differntly wouldve hit him with it!:shock: not a hobby for somone with a short fuse!

I never got into throwing the trash, it's all metal. I haven't hunted a place I knew there was no way I was ever going back to, so never made sense to leave metal in the ground, or tossed to the side, for a future hunt. Why waste time on the same junk, each time you return to hunt a site? Also kind of like carrying out a bucket full of trash, for all the curious to see, sort of masks any good stuff (pocket) I may have found. Little discouraging to potential completion, plus people are less annoyed when they see you removing metal junk, trash.

I've yet to even catch a glimpse of the detecting shows. Don't have pay-TV, and haven't visited anyone tuned in to the show. Pretty sure it's a blessing...

I caught that also! And my reaction was more like why is he littering as opposed to packing it out? Only because I am a little 'under the weather' today am I watching a few episodes and I only originally saw two but now they are being hassled by the Chicago cops, and having a shotgun pulled on them by some southern moonshiner looking type? The show has transcended whatever vague semblance it may have had to actual MD'ind and is now pure hilarious stupidity!

The shows predictibilty is what cracks me up... They go to SC to an old plantation... I say to my wife "Slave tags are extremely rare, watch, they will find one."

25 mins later, BOOM BABY a $4000 slave tag

YEAH RIGHT!!!

I've definitely had the urge! It sure is frustrating to spend 10 minutes digging a promising signal in hard ground only to find that it's a can or some other junk.

That said, I always pack out any trash I find - I figure it's good karma to clean up the litter, plus it's one less piece of metal to deal with the next time I hunt the area.

Not me

Unless it is large I just put it in my pack, I recycle metal anyway, and if I bring it out I won't dig it again later.

Please take your trash and don't throw it. Someone else is going to just unearth the same signal later on. Sometimes at old houses and barns my pouch will get so heavy, that I will either dump them in the old house in one spot or dump 'em in my pickup and sort through for recycling at home.

Take care....I also feel the frustration at times.

What he said.
If I dig it then I take it with me. After all the trash I've seen and dug I don't want to think I'm anywhere near the same kind of person as the ignorant slob that threw it there to begin with.

So he took litter that was hidden in the ground and threw it on top of the ground - essentially relittering. I didn't laugh when I saw that - I shouted a few words that if written would get me kicked off the forum. It's no wonder why people don't want us on their property. Take your trash with you.

My local scrap metal (and can recycling) place will take "my junk" I found out. My stepson recycles cans and saw my 5 gallon bucket about 1/3 full and said, "Let me take it with me and see if they'll accept it". THEY DID and I got $1.50 for a 1/3 full 5 gallon bucket of my "found trash" -- including some very corroded zincolns!  He brought the bucket back so I'm filling it up FULL this time.

I keep a gallon ice cream bucket in my kitchen and dump my "found trash" in it (all metal). When it's full I dump it into the 5 gallon bucket (that's in the carport). We'll see how much I get for a FULL 5 gallon bucket next time!

I quoted that number because that is what he sold it for...allegedly...
I understood your meaning and I too highly doubt it actually sold for that, or anything else they 'find' sells for as much as is depicted. Heck there coins rarer than slave tags that are not worth 4K. The supposed 'buyers' are way too quick to agree on the amounts without 2nd opinions. As far as trash is concerned I don't know what the laws are in other states but in Oregon if you pick something up on the road, woods whatever you now OWN it and need to do something with it
