Alternative to E-Bay?

ebay is your best bet and if you use paypal your protected ...........craigslist has a lot of scammers!

No question about it re. Craigslist. I've learned that with CL you really have to do it a certain way. I know guys who let people come to their homes. No way.

Whenever I do a CL deal, I do it in a very public place and its always bills under $20. Some folks actually do their CL deals in front of a police station.

Speaking of the money thing, that reminds me. A few months ago I got a check from a client and went to their bank to cash it. I got a bunch of $100 bills and some $50's. Later that day I went to Pep Boys to get tires and sure enough, one of the $50's were bad. It came from the envelope to the cashier and the thing was as fake as Joan Rivers' cheekbones. Fortunately they didn't call the cops and actually gave it back. I turned it in to the police and of course the bank didn't want to know me. Scammers everywhere.

Be safe.

I have sold over 4,000 items on Ebay and have never had a problem except I got a bad check once for $9. I have about 10,000 more items to sell in the next few years so I hope it stays productive. I bought an item a few weeks ago and it was a fake so I was refunded by PayPal. No bad experiences yet. Hope it stays that way.

Yep, I think its harder to start out now. Whatcha sellin'?

I stopped using ebay after there was an imaginary" problem with a delivery, back in 2007. They froze my paypal account on a lie from a customer. By the time I got it ironed out with supporting documentation, the customer had no money in their paypal and no cc to fund it. Needless to say, I was the loser... Never again. There are plenty of other avenues for selling items. I like etsy. They have a great platform and have been trying to improve it. It is mainly setup for businesses (using a business name), but that has recently changed.

FYI half.com and Craigs list are both eBay entities. I would not be surprised to see charges appearing on Craigs list.

I have had some luck with ecrater but you have to work really hard on advertising to make it work. Use all the suggested tips.
A few of my coin buddies do ok on etsy.

Am in the middle of a payment dispute now, buyer recieved detector, gave positive feedback, and even though I have a email from paypal saying my funds hold has been removed Im still being held to a 21 day funds hold by Ebay. So the seller has my detector, ebay has my money and I have nothing...will never use them again, and yes I do have a 100% positive feedback rating with 300+ sells. Ill use craigslist from now on, or some other site.

I'm with you. It's not fun being on that end of the stick. GL

Im sure it will get straightened out, hopefully I wont get stuck, but if so, I do have his address and dont mind driving at all.....

That's one thing I don't have is an address. Sure wish I did though. Anyone in FL see a guy walking around with a 5 year old laptop, let me know.:lol::lol:

I figure it was a lesson learned the hard way. :(

I was about to say the same thing about Half.com. My mom uses Half.com a lot to sell college text books. She uses the money she makes to buy new technology so everybody is happy.:D

Ebay is still your best bet for auctions, all amounts to traffic, ebay still has it. Unfortunately many potential bidders now have garage sale mentality and many items no longer bring what they did. Flooded with too many of the same item at one time.........I sold over 15,000 items between 2000 and 2007 before when ebay was still strong and it was the place to buy and sell collectibles. I don't sell much on ebay anymore unless I can actually make some money after the fees etc.

As for auctioning firearms and such look at:
http://gunauction.com/

This is the best place to sign up at if you want to know the details of all the best and worst auction sites as well as all the dirt.

It depends what you sell. I too have seen some things decrease, especially once the recession hit, but over the past few years Ebay has done well to make it a more global site and buyers have caught on. So if your products can be offered International, foreign bidding can make up a little for the loss. I think having an Ebay business isn't really much different than a physical location as everything just slowed down. Today's world is so much more about adaptation and innovation than it used to be, and unfortunately that does not work for everyone. This thread has actually done something positive for me, it has opened my eyes to how many other places there online to shop. I have no plans to sell but may register to buy a little and look for deals.

I might give E-Bay another try and have looked at a couple of the recommendations here. One or two I plan to register with and at least see if I can pick-up a deal or two. I’m surprised that nobody had any experience with eBid. From what I hear, they are the number 2 site behind E-Bay.

I just looked at ebid yes there is a lot of stuff there but very few bids.
In my specialty section there are over 80 coins all with absurdly high starting bids for problem and over graded coins.

I buy an sell stuff on craigs list I prefer the face to face and cash only
I always write done the license number of the vehicle they drive and I dont hide the fact that I am
If they want to meet somewhere I always do it in a very public place in the daylight and I bring someone with or some other backup ;)
I havent had a problem yet but that could change you never know

If your selling firearms, reloading or anything related go to Armslist. great site.
HH...C-Dog:gunbandanna:

I much prefer gunbroker.com. If its firearms related - it will be there. And dont forget - half.com is an eBay owned company - just as PayPal is.

Ebay owns 25% of Craigslist shares, FWIW.
