Against all odds....(10 photographs)

Thank you.

I tried to capture the seal impression with my camera but its not come out very well.

"A seal is a device for making an impression in wax, clay, paper, or some other medium, including an embossment on paper, and is also the impression thus made.

The original purpose was to authenticate a document, a wrapper for one such as a modern envelope, or the cover of a container or package holding valuables or other objects."

Heh. I know what a seal is. Was just wondering if you knew what this seal's use was - you know, magistrate, personal seal, etc.

Thanks for posting the picture. I would love to find something like that. Definitely on my new and updated bucket list.

Thanks for sharing.

The seal is most likely to be a traders one with just having the initials on it, date range is late 16th - 17th century. (openwork trefoil handle)

Wow.....again!

I am forced to start my "DirtyRob's Detect UK Fund"!

I will shamelessly take any donations!

Keep the finds coming! Awesome.

These are awesome finds Mr Turner! I have to point something interesting (at least to me) the ruler in your pic is in inches instead of mm. That surprises me being where you are. Is that your standard way of measurement? Inches vs mm?

I'm old school so I tend to use a duel ruler, imperial/metric.

Even my speedometer is duel on my car, MPH outer ring, KPH inner ring. Speed limits are posted in MPH.

Although most of our weights and measures in the UK is metric we still use miles per gallon for our vehicles even though fuel is sold metric at the pumps and our road signs are in miles........strange old world.

Thanks Rob.

My field searching is now coming to an end here, Mrs Turner and I are on our way out to your great country on Monday for our annual vacation. (Florida)

Doug Turner, Im sooo jealous right now!

Thank you.

I consider myself very lucky in that I live in a very rich area of England which is steeped in history, also being retired I can put in the hours searching the local fields.

I also have complete faith in machine and when my headphones is telling me it is trash I believe them.

Thanks.

View along the field but the reason I am searching this particular part of the field the clue can be found in the first photograph?

Nice, looks like a choke point forming a high traffic area between two hills. Nice situational awareness of your surroundings.

Yes you are correct.

Where I live is situated between two sets of hills with a river on the valley floor.

In times gone by people would have traversed the valley floor and used the natural gap in the hill on this side of the valley to go over the hill.

There is a small stream running down the natural valley which would have given them drinking water.

Cool. I thought it was a hammered, but I don't know enough about coins to know for sure. I think that hammered coins are the "neatest" looking coins.

The other Doug
