Advice on reinforcing my sand scoop.

Joe are you married? Homicide rate could go up. My X wife would look at me with squinted eyes on that story..... just before she killed me.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I wouldn't buy another one of these scoops again but sense I already have it then I will use it until it breaks. Hopefully I can get a few nice finds before then and buy me a much nicer one.

Do NOT do it... You'll end up with NO SCOOP AT ALL!

I had the same scoop you have. I thought it would work too. It failed miserably (on the third hunt with it). You don't need to get a Stealth 720i (I did though and don't have any regrets) but spend at least enough to get a good sturdy one.

You can see I used the bend-over scoop rather than the short handled one but, it wasn't the handle that failed, it was the basket that collapsed.

Here's about the LEAST scoop I would want. About $67 through Colonial Metal Detectors...

check the make it yourself forum here

you may be surprised at the low price you can make your own scoop for that may work alot better than yours for the time being

Is that scoop pictured the galvanized or the stainless? They have the stainless steel ones that look pretty robust for a decent price and I could attach my own handle. My neighbor owns a welding and fab shop and could weld this scoop up nice and solid. My only issues is not knowing what gauge the stainless is.
