Colter,

Great finds. You must be glad to be out of the silverless wastelands of California! I am headed back to Michigan next week, so hopefully I will have some finds to show when I get back.

A most impressive venture... I am in envy of your finds... (our house is a 1780ish homestead) I was doing some wall building last week and found a large copper... Took me two days to clean it enough to find it was an 1808 Amer. one cent copper... WHICH HAD BEEN POUNDED TO OBLIVION WITH A HAMMER... It was almost unrecognizable... So, I wanted to tell you how happy I am and you should be that yours was just simply needing an olive oil bath... I need I time machine to fix my latest find... lol Thanks for sharing... what great stuff... I can just imagine the feeling of opening that little pouch...!!! :wow:

that is an awesome score! You found exactly what I was daydreaming about this weekend as I dug my 10th (or was it 100th) nail that was ringing up 11-45. Way to persevere.

Excellent post and find! I enjoyed that quite a bit although you have WAY more patience than I do!

I hunted a place like that one time. I was doing really well too. Found 5 solid silver dollars in one hole and lots of other silver before finding a gold ring. Of course I couldn't bring any of it home because I was asleep and dreaming. Still a fond memory though.

That is so awesome!! Old coin spills and coin purses are just thrilling to find and see them being found, congrats and thanks for sharing the pictures and the story!

I would love to find a large copper. I once found the clasp to an old coin purse. There were eight targets around it. They all turned out to be Kansas Tax Tokens. Not a coin in the bunch.

Congrats on an awesome find!! If it were me who found a coin purse, it probably would've been a Spongebob one with a bunch of pennies and a paper clip in it!!

Thanks guys so much for reading and responding! It really seems like my perseverance and taking the time to compartmentalize and grid out my hunt sites has paid dividends. Alot of my best finds have come in seemingly low traffic zones.

UPDATE: I have been very gently brushing the LC intermittently while it soaks in the olive oil and gradually more and more detail is coming out, and it is a Coronet Head style Large Cent my third ever! This style LC was minted between 1816 and 1839 so hopefully the corrosion will release nicely and leave some details.
