$2 coins may be comming to the U.S.?

Yeah, let's pay off the national debt in $2 coins. Here's what 15 Trillion looks like stacked in $100 dollar bills........

I just emailed the white house, but I doubt it will do any good.

Email:

I really think that they should get rid of the 1 and 2 dollar bills, and go with a 1 and 2 dollar coin. The US prints new dollar bills every 17-22 months, because they have such a short lifespan. A coin can last a good 40 years before wearing out. There is currently a stockpile of one dollar coins and no one wants them.If they simply quit making the dollar bill, demand would increase.

 Nice!

It really does make sense, therefore it does not fit our governments vocabulary.

A dollar bill lasts 17-22 months. Those stupid zinc pennies don't last that long. They need to go back to making them out of copper. I've found early 1900's copper pennies still in good shape. Cheaper in the long run by far.

I've got a few large cents from the 1820s/30's with readable dates. But the price of copper and the fact that everyone will hoard them will prevent the US from going back to copper pennies....

Our government does coin money and it does not cost us anything but the price of the cheap metal they use and labor.

You might want to look up the meaning of seignorage. The government makes a profit on the difference between what the coin costs to make and the face value of it.

The only problem with the current brand of $1 coins is that they are roughly the same size as a quarter.

Make them bigger and they'll do a bit better imo

:oldguy:The problem always has been, and still is, public acceptance.

The problem with Public Acceptance would diminish if the feds decided to make a dollar coin that wasn't just about the same size as a quarter.

The current 1 dollar presidential coins are too close in size and weight and can be easily confused with a quarter. The gold color quickly wears and tarnishes to make that difference useless as well.

Just my 2 cents.

Ok, I have to agree and wouldn't mind coins but with my slightly warped sense of humor the pic I get in my head is ...
Help police,
What's wrong sir/ma'am
Someone just stole my wallet/purse, i just cashed my check and had $500 in it.
Which way did they go
Oh, they're right there, 30 ft to your left, did I forget to mention it was all in coins...

Sorry, just how my mind kind-a works:D

And when folks lose them, it will be a lot easier for us MDers to find them!:lol:

BTW, it would not bother me to FIND a pocket full of them!

IDEA! Maybe we could get folks to start filling fruit jars with them and burying them in their back yards! The new dollar bank hoarders! HA HA

Need $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 coins and get rid of paper money.

Wouldn't mind finding a high denomination coin once in a while.. takes a lot of pennies to buy 8 alkaline AA...

some $5 and $10 coins would certainly boost my clad total but i'd settle for some $1 & $2 coins :gettinmoney:

Yes! Down with paper money! and down with tungsten, titanium and ss rings while were at it.

Yeah, lets get rid of the reserve note. So when I decide to carry $200-$300, I can turn to my trusty coin purse that weighs 15 lbs. And where am I going to carry the coin purse since it will be too big for my pockets? How about my handy dandy European carry all.

"Its not a purse!! ITS EUROPEAN!! - Seinfeld

This has ALWAYS been my arguement. I've NEVER been to Europe or anything, but my question is how do they do it then when it comes to the amounts that greedo_11 is talking about??? You all say what you say now, but when it does happen and your in your car trying to take money out or whatever the case may be... GUARANTEED you're going to be cussing up a storm even more so because of how heavy your "wallet" is... I just went to the bank today and had about $15 or so in my wallet (just $1 bills ONLY)!!! Virtually no weight compared to metal coins. I agree, that we need to quit paying on the interest to these "printers" just like we NEED the jobs to come back to the U.S.!!! Not too long ago in the news they were talking about how much more expensive it is to actually outsource and I'm thinking, you have to be kidding me right... they're just now figuring this out  seriously people, doesn't take a rocket scientist. Man is this going to be a hot topic!!! :compcoffee: I don't know, it is what it is I guess. HH \_

The joke just doesn't get any better than that!!! HH \_
