Yeah, 1865 is probably the Brand Name and not the year

EddiMac, that is sooo cool that you found the identical button.. I have not found out any additional information on it as of yet.. My google searches did not turn up anything...maybe someone on the forum will ID them for us.. Thanks for the post.

Found what looks to be an identical button today in NC. Any updates about button "1865"

I have found 2 of these buttons in PA, and if I can dig them out I will post a picture. I never gave them awhole lot of looksie because they look like that..Anyhow cool button!!

Carter's

Carter's brand baby and children's clothing was founded in 1865, maybe they put that on some of their buttons.
Sounds like some of these were found at or near schools.
My guess is modern

Tried to do a little research on this because I found one of those last year. Google search gets you nowhere UNLESS you Google "Clothing Companies Founded in 1865". You will come up with Spiegel and also Carter's. I haven't been able to find a match yet but I'm guessing that's where we'll eventually solve this mystery.

1865 Brass button

My husband also found one of these buttons a couple of days ago...Just laying on the ground in the lot where they park their cars at work. he works in Cincinnati Ohio.
