1741 Coin of unknown origin...

1741 Coin

From that earlier link one side of the coin is shown but it's kinda dark to see. So I took the image and changed the contrast and brightness a bit. Here is what it looks like.....

Hi! i'm in California and i found this same coin under a coinstar machine at work. I took it to a coin dealer and just like me he couldn't find any information about it on the internet. Anyone knows about this coin please contact me at [email protected] thanks!

me too!

Hey I found a coin just like that too! Google image search turned up nothing, and the app on my iphone also returns nothing! it must be super rare. I have only found about 25 examples of it in recorded history, all on FMDF. I'm willing to sell it to any interested buyers for 10,000 dollars. Send a self addressed stamped envelope with prepaid postage to......UPDATE....Sold to a private collector in an undisclosed location for an undisclosed amount;)

Interesting News!

Hi folks,

I just wanted to throw a bit of something in here for those who are looking into this coin.

I found one of these coins a while back behind a rock wall that was knocked down in our basement. When I looked into it, I ended up on this site. I found it odd that a "toy coin" would some how end up behind wall in a hidden room in our basement. So I sought out a copy of this “Pirate” game to see if people are telling the truth, OR just trying to mislead collectors/detectors into selling a valuable coin for no money.

There is in fact a "Pirate" game that is using the design of this coin as a token in the game but here is the issue with that; got a hold of one of the games and found some interesting things out about the fakes within it.

The "GAME" coin is NOT made of bronze; it is made of aluminum/copper. The actual coin was in fact bronze and from what I was told, had the proper amount of ware on it for the time span.

After having both people I spoke to look over the coin and take pictures, two things seem apparent with their research. They seem to be consistently distributed all throughout North America. The first of the two men I spoke with thinks African Americans via the Underground Railroad may have carried them to their current locations. He came to this conclusion after speaking with two individuals that found them in hidden rooms that were once part of it and has suggested that I have the hidden room in my home looked into as that it may be of historical signifigance.

The second seems to agree with them being somehow associated with Mardi Gras as well as their distribution being somehow associated with the Underground Railroad as was suggested by the earlier gentleman.

Oddly enough the second offered me two hundred dollars for it directly after he tested the game token and the actual coin; being that I can’t find much more info on it then the people here I sold it to him; along with the game token to debunk any rumors of it being fake. It may end up being worth less or more but he as a collector was willing to take that chance.

What he did with it past that, I have no idea but I am now more interested in the fact that both this coin and the hidden room we found in our basement may have been somehow associated with the Underground Railroad.

Hope this assists.

Coin

Thanks to the previous poster. My son and I found this coin not far from the Jersey Shore, in an area that is predomiently wooded. It is much heavier than the reported fake coin (aluminum and copper), and appears to be full bronze. We may take it to a nearby coin collector, and have them verify the coin.

Although I did not find this with a metal detector, thought I would pop in to say where I am and I have one too! Legit heavy coin... does not seem like a game piece to me.... Hope we find out what it is, and it's worth MILLIONS!!!

This is about as good as I could find a pic of the coin.

I couldn't tell anything except the game comes with 30 coins. Seems like people would have different coins if it was used for each person playing to tell the difference??

Dang it, I want to find one here in GA! Toy token, replica or real ancient coin, this is interesting. These things are popping up everywhere in the strangest places. Here's your next big movie hit! Somebody, please write it, direct it. All I want out of it is a G Pro Pointer.

Does each player use a different kind of currency when they play poker? The winner is the one with the most pieces.

It is pertty interesting that there might be a real coin as well as fake duplicates floating around out there. It would be interesting to know how many of the ones reported are of each type.

I think it could have been to commemorate Admiral Ogle's assault on Cartagena.

just a guess

OK I just found one of these coins yesterday 😊I live in stratford ont Canada. Look very close at his crown ...... I work at the stratford festival ( theater ), so I really think that it may have been a souvenir that u could buy at our gift shop ( still investagating) the theater isn't officially opened yet but soon 😊 so I found the coin while steam cleaning the autatourm so when I took a closer look at the coin it looks the the roof of the stratford festival theater where I work, so once I see some of the crew or store workers I will find out for sure and let you know
