1368 find (PLZ HELP ID IT)

The OP isn't going to listen to any replies that aren't "It's treasure! It's valuable! It's gold!", so unless you feel like pulling his/her leg, don't both replying. It's not old, that's for sure. Where you found it really means nothing since you have no idea whether or not the land is untouched (even if you think you do or if the person who told you that thinks such). That carving looks almost fresh, and certainly hasn't been sitting in the ground any considerable length of time. The land/property marker sounds like a very good guess, and makes the most sense.

CCartist who used to work with resin, says resin's been around for 100 years, so I wouldn't be so quick to call it new. Gold and silver come out of the ground looking pretty good, maybe this stuff does also.

I don't know much about amber. Actually, I have never even held a piece. Isn't amber fossilized tree sap? If that is the case, then the object inside would have to be something natural and not manmade. If it is amber, then it is not molded. It would have to have been a HUGE piece that has been carved down and worked to get the number on the top like that.

Manmade amber and resins can be poured into a mold. I hope that your item has a lot of value. It would be awesome if it were gold or something like that inside.

You experts out there. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Doug

I would PM Doug Turner on this forum and ask what he would do. He has objects I.D.ed all the time there in England. WOLF

If it is truly Amber, I would not open it. Could be thousands of years old and have an ancient virus lurking inside, or DNA from some ancient being, maybe a stasis pod and the darn thing hatches man eating bugs and then they wipe out the entire population of people and animals, or maybe is a preserved part of an alien spacecraft that visited earth a few hundred thousand years ago, or maybe just maybe, it's the key to the Great Stonehenge, buried so that no one would ever find it and activate the great weapon of the universe.
Yeah, I watch way too much Sci-Fi. Sorry have no clue what it is, but in all seriousness, if it is Amber, I would not open it. You never know what kind of terror you could unless on the world. Old bacteria, DNA, Virus who knows. I think I would put it back where I found it, only bury it deeper so someone else didn't find it. Yeah, I'm paranoid, I watch too much Sci-Fi man! Way too much! It is cool though. Take it from someone who has something a piece of a non-terrestrial based object. It's really freaky man! You just never know what it could be.

Whoa

could it be?

Could it be someones kidney stone? :?::D Just kidding. I think if it was amber it would have insects in it not man made objects. The marker theory sounds logical to me. Good luck.

You are correct. If it's real amber, it would have to have been fossilized with the object inside it and that takes ...oh... a little while. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber

Way before block lettering that's for sure! Also evidence on the palms of the hands looks as though resin is present on the hands whether by making of the object or by rubbing off on the hands. This residue looks just like a plastic resin material. It leaves a glistening residue that sparkles when dried on skin. It's not just the "flash" from the camera.

And other important questions asked aren't being answered and testing methods are being avoided. I am beginning to stray more towards hoax than authentic.

The outer shell is definitely not of any importance, it is of no historical value by any means. I would suggest that it be opened and MAYBE reveal something of some value from decades ago vs. centuries.

OH, btw, amber generally has a consistent color to it. Notice the pictures, the color differences is almost split right in the middle. Dark and light with a definite line of division.

Amber = ruled out for sure.

Oh no, don't open it, it may unleash a horrible terror upon us! Seriously though, a photo cannot do justice as seeing it in person. The coloration's etc, could be just in the way the photos were taken, lighting, flash etc. I'm going to go with a man made object, esp. if its metallic in nature inside. Now here's another theory, unless it's something from this time frame or in the future and it was dropped in the past by a time traveler and then encased in sap that turned to amber after thousands of years. I know, more Sci-Fi man, just love that Sci-Fi stuff!

Outwardjourney - I know nothing about resin but I do know photography (I have a degree in it) and your are correct; that is not just flash on the person's hand holding the item. The flash is reflecting off of something on the hands.

FL-Hunter - When I was writing my last post the only thing that was going through my mind about the metal inside was "John Titor".

Doug

Looks modern to me. I agree with AthensHunter. He's just that type of person who filters out what he doesn't want to hear.

By the way, just because the numbers 1368 is etched into the object doesn't mean it's the date it was made/crafted!

For all we know it could be some in-mate's soap bar

Yes I do know of the John Titor Hoax. He claimed to be a Time Traveler from the year 2036. Heck, if I was a time traveler from 2036, I'd go back to Tuesday, buy the winning Powerball ticket, take all the money in old cash, go back to the 1960's and invest it all in Microsoft, then go to the late 1990's sell it all, and take all my cash in old bills and go back to the 1960's and live out my life and enjoy all the awesome 60's & 70's music and concerts.

That sounds like a plan! I would also go back to the early 1800's and drop a few large cents and then see if I could find them in the future.

nah, lets take it one step further!

lets go back to the Egyptian days where gold was nothing to them, make about a 200 pound gold block, transport it to a good estimate of where my house is, and bury it.

Open that dang thing its driving me nuts!

Man, Egyptian times, 1800's, those were dangerous times back then. I wouldn't go back there without my Phaser from the future and my level 5 force field! Then maybe! Oh and I would need a ZPM to power everything!

I take it you play world of warcraft too?:p

Actually, I don't even know what that is, I have heard of it, but that's all I know. I just love a good Sci-Fi show though. Nothing beats a good Sci-Fi show in surround on a nice large plasma screen while drinking an ice cold Sarsaparilla in a pitch dark room!

Sweet, I do not only photography for fun, but I am in the TV/Film industry (production side). So lighting is a must-know :)

why does it have to be resin or amber? It looks like good old glass some one has poured over a object. It looks full of bubbles like the old bottles I have.
that would also explain why it resists the acetone in the nail remover. this could also explain the color variation in the pics. :?:
