Hurricane to Mix things up?

I started this thread when she was predicted to hit as CAT 1. BY now everyone knows they are talking of maybe a CAT 3. I never want to see the destruction of beaches or property. Our first priority is to stay safe. And I'm not just talking about the beach, but the drive to and from. I will never put finding something with a detector ahead of someone's misfortune. If that is the way this thread was taken by some then I apologize. All I really want is a nice cut. And judging by what I just saw the Hurricane will be inland when it comes up through the mid Atlantic. I guess no waves for Jersey.

Ya gotta love metal detectorist. They wish for mayhem. Hurricane Ok as long as you're not the one getting it in the shorts? Gold sky rocketing in price but your job is secure so hooray for gold? Is there no limit to the greed on these pages?

No one on this forum wishes anyone ill will or bad luck or a hurricane to bear down on anyones home. They are simply talking about beach hunting after a storm that no one other then God has control over where it's going, nothing more. I am sure most everyone on here would not think twice about helping anyone during a storm or disaster. To say we are greedy is about as far from the truth as you can get. So unless you are just joking, which it doesn't sound like you are. There is no need to spew hate on this forum.

No need to apologize goodmore, Like you, We all don't want people hurt/killed and homes destroy. Guys, Can we please STAY ON THE TOPIC of finding gold after the Hurricane!

My strat will be to try and get Saturday off so I can hit the beach.

I'm not wishing destruction on anyone but living in Florida, especially on the coast, hurricanes are a risk you take.

If we get any kind of surge- I have a strategy, whether or not it's gonna play out is the question. Since I work for the city of Palm Coast, we're gonna be fully staffed until the initial cleanup (if any) is over. If by chance I can break out, then by daybreak, I'll be scouring from Flagler Pier to Anastasia Island indefinitely! Should be interesting though. We haven't had a direct hit yet. I pray that we don't. But the local surfers are gearing up as I type this :lol:Anyone else in the Saint Auggy area?

a lot more than I would have thought ! been in hollywood FL.

6-8 ft sea for 5 or 6 day i could go for .but a light sea in the right direction can move alot of sand. Be careful what you wish for.

Well said! Everyone thinks the bigger the blow the better but that is not true...actually Andrew DUMPED sand on the beach ... a good Noreaster can be better than a Cat 3 any day!

I agree conditions have to be right, but at least maybe if just a foot is stripped back to the sea wall, I would be a happy camper. I think of it as this, ya have a prize winning pig, ya don't wanna slaughter it, ya just want a lil bite now and then...

I am ready to hit the beach with some sand gone. The conditions have not been producing lately.

mail

im ready ;)

in Puerto Rico are still winds and heavy rain by irene. I hope to go hunting in the next few days

God bless all who may be affected by this storm.

You aren't a weather forecaster :D Latest I heard we may get a little wind and tropical rain from it come sunday as a few computer models are now keeping it off the florida coast over the open waters and are saying Hatteras looks like the target...

Hurricanes come pretty much every year, we understand that, make ready for the worst. They happen, regardless of our desires, it's nature. There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of the bounty these storms might bring. The thread is about detecting the beach, not storm ravished neighborhoods.

After riding out a hurricane for 6-10 hours, it's such a relief to get outside, survey the damage, and how much yard cleanup you have, check on the neighbors, and family, then walk the dog, and see how bad it really was. I don't know about hopping in the car, and taking a 45 minute drive to the beach at that point. Fortunately, most of the storms stay out to see, or weaken considerably, before coming inland, and usually not all that bad.

Really don't see the greed, the storms provide a unique opportunity, and everyone naturally wants to get outside for a while, nothing better, than doing something you enjoy, and maybe get a little luckier than usual, for what you just endured.

I have the best hurricane protection system about six years ago. After 25 years of buying plywood I purchased $8000 worth of accordion shutters and we haven't had storm since so I figure if one person every 10 miles up and down the coast buys these should all be safe.:?:

The days leading up to it will bring up that hot and stiffling air. I'm not
looking forward to hunting in that. It's really awful.

Afterwards it will be windy and cooler..that will be nice.

Going to hunt some areas in the water where sand has moved before and
gave me some older targets.

I'll hit some dry sand for a change too if the surf has been real rough.
Lighter gold and silver can be thrown up pretty far.

Afterwards, if there has been urban flooding, I'll hit around the nightclubs
where the landscaping has floated away.

Goodmore, absolutely no reason to apologize. I agree, if a storm comes we do what we do. I'll be out there. Nothing wrong with sand getting moved around. It's the "been prayin" for a good storm or "hoping' for a storm type posts that I find very offensive. These storms can hurt people. Why would we pray for something that is going to hurt people or destroy their homes? So, we can find more trinkets on the beach? Are we that greedy? That's the point.

And yes, I realize, noone is praying for that outcome. Yet, it is what it is, big storms, death, and destruction all go hand in hand.

I have a home in SW Florida. My son and his young family live in Florida year round. I lost a boat, which was my winter home at the time, to Hurricane Charley. I for one am praying for a miss. Now, a near miss with sand scouring wind and wave action, that's something I could pray for.
