I wonder how many wear headphones ?

I Always wear wireless headphones
Was this the case when you first began swinging a detector? I only got used to using hps after I began a group hunt and not all by myself, that was nearly a year later. Then a few of my new buddies corrected me with little snide remarks and advice about how much runtime I was losing from my batteries. The "looks" I received with my signals, running in open-air with no head phones on from several new friends, changed me.

I still like not using hps a lot in private in my own test gardens or "on the fly." I now understand the reasons and feel lost when I forget my headphones.

KT only hunted one elementry school playground out of many dozens where headphones where headphones were needed. Never used them on any site that was in bad sections of town and many of KT's sites....school and park playgrounds....were in such areas. To the point that KT found not only a large numbers of bullets but live ammo too! Including a few live rounds from an AK-47, so use your best judgement!

During my first Christmas exchange here on the forum, my exchange partner sent me a really nice pair of headphones, and I wear them pretty much on every hunt. Like others have noted, something I appreciate about hunting with headphones is that, by silencing the signals, I am making myself a little less conspicuous.

Still, I recognize the importance of remaining aware of my surroundings. I seldom (actually, probably never) metal detect alone... that's one of the benefits of having my dad & brothers for hunting buddies. 😉 I often carry pepper spray when I'm out & about (not just while detecting), simply as a sensible safety precaution.

But to answer the question - yes, I metal detect with headphones. Nice thread topic!

I never wore headphones for the first five years I detected, but I wear them all the time now for one simple reason. No more people coming up to me and asking annoying questions, like "Find any treasure?" when I wear them. Headphones are great for anti-social people like myself, who just want to be left alone when they metal detect.

I'm strictly a beach guy so I have been asked several times "How much money do you make on a good day?" Lol....they don't realize that it's just a hobby or that you are looking for gold jewelry. It's all about "how many coins can you find" to them.
