What Somewhat Common Dig Has Eluded You?

A silver ring, I've had gold and platinum but no silver, I'm in S.E Asia though so that probably explains it, people tend to wear high carat gold. I'm not complaining though :)

A rising sun hat badge (a badge worn by AIF soldiers during both world wars), platinum rings and 50c coins are my top three. :p

I have had several of the rising sun Australian hat badges here in England over the years, mainly from a military training area.

Keep searching, I went 7 years before finding first LC, found 2nd one week later 20 miles away. The first one is the hardest. HH Jerry

“The first one is the hardest”...and that cannot be any more true. I went 6.5 seasons before I found a Stander, then proceeded to find 3 more in a two week period, all 200 feet from the first. A similar thing happened with my first LC as well, then dug 2 more on the same property. It has to do with LOCATION. Why it takes SO long to find that very first one of anything...I don’t know.

To hear you’ve never dug a large cent is almost unbelievable. For corns sake you’ve dug everything else!

They were long out of circulation before anybody moved to this area to start a town (all newer than 1890s). Even the oldest military/chisolm trails around me are too new (1870s) to have seen a largie unless someone happened to lose their lucky coin.

I've dug lots of Indians, so I'm still hopeful for an FE, 2c and trime

Many areas around here the same, very late 1800s stuff. That’s why I do very well on Barbers(“well” to me) and have only ever found 3 Seated anythings. It’s kinda disappointing to be SO close, yet so far...but it makes it VERY special when an oldie shows up once a year. Last year I got into the 1860s a few times with Shield nickels,a fattie and a couple other Indians but my oldest silver ever from around here is an 1852 half Dime. One day, out will pop a Bust, and that will be a good day! I also need the last three you mentioned...but a 20 center would be Ok too!

Haven't been doing this long enough to say anything has "eluded" me. But my goal this year is to try to complete as much of the 20 century coins as possible. Barber and Standing Liberty Quarter, Barber and Walking Liberty Half, Peace and Eisenhower dollar.

buffalo nickle, silver dollar, any silver half. Got a war nickle, barber dime, mercs, rosies and a SLQ in the past 18 months, but a buff eludes me. A silver dollar and half are bucketlist.

Still looking for my first thimble

Also flying eagle cent, and any silver dollar

What if I answered absolutely nothing common.

Lots of gold, a gold coin, silver dollar, lots of silver, platinum, seated, large cents, barbers and newer.

If we went to uncommon then I can think of a capped, a two cent piece and a trime.

I want to find a machine gun!

I’ve yet to find a pine tree shilling, gold coins, cob, large cent, trime, shield nickel, flying eagle cent, large cent, the list goes on and on and on!

Hey, I’m turning 46 this year so there’s still some time...

I know you said somewhat common so I’ll add, I could really use some platinum.

I thought the Pine tree shillings were just a myth.

Silver war nickel, shield nickel, Large Cent, walking half, any seated quarter or half. I have been lucky and found a Morgan last year, so I can't complain too much. Plus I am only on my 3rd season, so I have time to find plenty more.

For my first year detecting it was a silver rosie. I had found barber dimes and quarters, v nickels, wheats, mercury dimes, war nickels, a half reale and a walker. My first rosie was found 16 months after I started. nThe local guys made fun of me because they said finding rosies was like finding water, Hmmm.
