Are the new improved features better compared to the old AT pro ? Is it worth the extra money ?

60 reviews and not one response? The at max people have spoken, silence speaks volumes. Thank you,I will scratch it off my list....

From the second it came out it looked very similar to the mxsport to me. The hoover boys(you tube search them) seem to be enjoying it who heavily used the at pro. Seems to get a tad deeper from what I've seen.

My AT Max will be delivered today and I hope to do a all day hunt on Wed. So I will let you know what I think. Any good finds lately?

Maybe they just opened your thread to see what the hell you actually were looking for, but may not have an answer for you...

There's my response...

People opening the thread are looking for the information, and do not yet own the MAX. Evidently either the Max owners are all out detecting and too busy digging to reply, or they have nothing to say.:waiting:

Personally, I don't think I could have even answered the OP. "Is it worth the extra money" is almost always a qualitative response, not a quantitative one.

Is it more expensive? Quantifiable.
Does it hit deeper? Quantifiable.
Does the backlight increase visibility of the screen at dusk/night? Quantifiable.
Does the Z-Lync reduce catching on your headset cable? Quantifiable.

Is it "worth" it?

That's like asking a used car owner if a new car purchase was "worth it." Unless there's something WRONG with the new car, then the investment is a moot point.

Most folks who already sold off their AT Pros for an AT Max, the answer is a silly one. Why? Because they already paid that piper. Not much to add to that conversation.

If they said, "Yes." what then? Would someone have sold their equipment and gone and purchased an AT Max? Unlikely.

So... not many responses seems a rather reasonable approach.

Attempting to read negative reasons into people not responding is a bit silly.

That's my 2 cents.

For me, I've decided NOT to upgrade to the AT Max. Why? Because I have a Z-lync transmitter set already, and I wear a cap light at night, and 99% of my targets are less than 4" anyway. No point to the upgrade. If I had an extra $600, that couldn't be better put somewhere else, sure! But I'm not flush with cash. As a point of note, many AT Pro users didn't buy their rigs new. I didn't. So, why would I go buy an AT Max new? If I was in the market for a new rig, sure I'd be all over it, with the coils I already have... but I'm not, so I won't. But when I do, it'll be "worth it," because I will have spent the money already.

LOL

No kidding. Maybe they were opening it to SEE Any responses from people like ME that own one. Guess since my silence has spoken and you crossed it off your list. Never mind then, I'll keep my info between myself and others thru their threads. :)

Your telling me it took 62 views to give an opinion ? Wishy washy or what ?Lord have mercy ! I'll have choppa's review shortly.....I think Skippy has it right, If it ain't broke, don't fix it....Well thanks for finally finding your voices, can't say it was much help but what do you want for nothing ?

TP, Hang in there, that MX sport seems to be working well for you.

Skippy, thank you for an honest opinion, I wasn't thinking that I wouldn't get a response, its all good though
.
Choppa,I'm hunting like a madman and coming up with nothing to show for my effort, Lots of clad but no silvers.2 junk rings and a junk bracelet with Brenda engraved on it. I think I am in a slump.

Thanks Mikey and the rest who took the time to respond.

Happy hunting and may your finds pouch overflow with treasures.....

I also find strange that, people have received their units that where very actively waiting arrival. They have reported receiving them and now after about 3 weeks, total silence. The only reports are from original testers. Either they are busy finding stuff or nothing at all. Time will tell, but, I figured at least a few would have reported something bye now.

Well, I received mine Saturday and hunted for abot 90 minutes yesterday.
I have been so busy with work and my son's final (Senior year) soccer season, that I have not been hunting much at all.
I upgraded fro two reasons: backlight and wireless headphones.
Therefore, for me, it was well worth it.
My AT PRO is about 6 years old and has a lot of miles on it, plus I bought it used for about $450.
For an extra $200 well worth the money, plus if I can get another inch deeper, I will be thrilled:D

I think their silence speaks wonders too, just the complete opposite though.
Don't you think if they were not happy with them, you would hear it?
My thought is they just want more than a week or two to give an accurate report.

Lol, great, stuff man..

That's so true, especially when it comes to certain fishing areas... When nobody will answer the guy asking how Turtle Island is, or complaining about Turtle Island ... I know exactly what's happening!!! Lol.. Love that silence..

Well bibelot I have spent several hours with this unit and I think I can answer your question.
The MSRP on the AT Pro is $649, The MSRP on the AT Max is $849, a difference of $200.
For that money you get wireless headphones, new frequency, backlight, better designed handle, volume control, more infinite GB adjustment and a true all metal mode.
I set up my custom mode and only wish there was a up/down control for the modes instead of the rolling through the modes, that way I could just switch back and forth from the all metal to the custom mode but a couple extra button pushes are not a dealer breaker for me.

No the only issue I have at this time is the misinformation about aftermarket coils.
The AT Pro operates at 15 kHz and the AT Gold operates at 18 kHz and they state the aftermarket coils for each are not interchangeable. The AT Max operates at 13.6 kHz and they say the NEL coils for the AT pro will work on the Max. Still not enough info out there about this. I would love to order a NEL Tornado for my AT max as I killed it with the Tornado on the AT pro digging many deep silvers with it.

I may be wrong but I think a lot of people feel like they're setting themselves up for an ambush. What with "the Deus is better than anything" crowd always lurking. Don't have a dog in the fight, but may be part of the problem.

I think the folks who have At Max likely want or need more run time,,before they will climb out on a limb.

Nothing wrong with this either.

It takes more than a couple hunts or a few targets recovered to find out the real deal with the detector.
And the detector likely needs to be operated in some different venues, to be able to fairly rate emi wise.

Some At Max owners may be hunting sites they have hunted hard with At Pro previously.
This is ok to do.
But just because you don't find anything or much,,doesn't mean the Max doesn't have any advantage say over the At Pro.
Some sites just don't have the finds positioned to find to note the possible differences.
Been there and done this btw.

Multiple sites though usually will flush out.

That is what I was looking for.How difficult could it be to tell the difference from Max compared to the old AT pro, if you have used both ? I wouldn't think it would be a big learning curve if you were already use to running the Pro ? In reality most problems with machines are the coils provided for them. Most likely, none are a exact 13.6 or 15 kHz from the coil build itself but I am sure they probably fall closer to one or the other and not really a happy medium.I wondered if that was George's problem with AT Max the day I hunted with you guys ?I missed a smoking AT pro deal back when I first started this thread, I should have jumped on it and held off and when I decided to, it was sold.
