Church of the Compadre...

I just picked up a Compadre a month ago and have been finding some good stuff so far! This "toy" has not disappointed me at all...

My intro thread with pics of some finds so far with the Compadre.

Here's a little teaser for ya...

I think you should send that back to where you got it.
A low priced detector just can not find good coins like that.
I hope that them other big detectors do not see this.
I think that would kill their ego.
How deep was it ?

Great find..

It was about 6" down. I found it along a sidewalk behind an old coal mining house in a pretty trashy yard. It was a definite coin sound when I picked it up and it sounded sweet. Before I even dug it I had a feeling it was something good. I also found some copper mine check tags buried around the back yard. They hit pretty solidly, being about the diameter of a silver dollar, but not as sweet as the quarter did. I can't wait to go back and do a more thorough search of the property!

More silver today...

Found another small bit of silver with the Compadre today. A small sterling silver spoon in my buddy's yard. I was hoping there were some old silver coins there but I dug mostly trash in my quick 30 minute search.

That's a nice hunk of silver!

I'm having a blast with this detector! I still like reading about some of you folks using other detectors to find lots of silver. I'm already researching what other detector to get to supplement this one. :)

The Compadre amazes me! I just got my first Compadre with 8" coil about a month ago and have been using it exclusively ever since. I've found a 1964 dime and a 1944 wheatie in an old park with lots of trash. As long as you turn it on "max" you will only dig quarters, dimes and copper pennies (I did have one or two zincolns but dug over 50+ coppers in a week). Sometimes the occasional pulltab (usually the old ones) and can slaw fools the Compadre in "coin mode" but not much else!

Turn it down sometime....it finds a whole lot more than coins.
Pretty easily too.

Pay attention to Digger's advice. I also have a compadre with 8" coil and found my first gold ring with it a few days ago. I had my disc set on the N in iron and the ring disc'd out just a little above that. So, if I would have had it set much higher than N, I would have missed it. http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=248744

Thanks for the tips! Whenever I'm not running max discrimination I usually run it at the F in Foil. I spend most of my time at trashy areas (usually public parks) but I will be heading somewhere less trashy so I'll be sure to take your advice. I went on a hunt in a very old park yesterday (dating back to early 1900's) and came up empty with the exception of a few clad quarters from the same hole. Due to the Compadre's versatility I was able to get close to the fence to do this! :good:

Better...but I have found some great things even below that F in foil.

This tiny silver chain is just one of them.
At the O in iron it was there, at the N it was gone.

I usually hunt down in iron or all metal, get a signal and thumb that disc knob up past the fade out point then back down to listen closely to how it comes in.
Been doing that for years, I won't do it any other way.
There are indicators I have learned that helps me cut out about 80% of the trash I come across out there but still let's me find the good stuff.
Just takes practice.

What you have there is the bottom part of a bar spoon. I haven't seen one of those in a long time but they're made to trickle liquor down to make layered fancy cocktails. Cool find!
