I just want to clarify on my post talking about minelab. I am not brand loyal. I will purchase any brand that will meet my expectations and detecting needs! And right now I believe that to be the Impact!
Keep up the good info everyone! I am just trying to process and soak it all in! Especially tnsharpshooter. Thanks for providing us we all this helpful information. I am impressed with what you have done testing the Impact.
I tried to explain this detector using common terms.
Some folks may not understand what I'm referring to with some things or terms.
By all mean asked questions if you don't understand.
Impact detector,,it lets you keep abreast of your settings easier than a lot of other detectors.
Ability to toggle settings,,especially frequency will have its place,,once folks get more accustomed,,especially when hunting sites with mixed history of finds,,modern junk and older coins.
It is not a perfect detector,,but gives tools for a per own to accomodate them in a lot of detecting venues.
The weather was bad over a wide area this weekend in the USA,,had it not been I am sure we would have seen some more finds starting to surface while using Impact,,not to mention green up is in full force in the southern and mid south part of the country.
Folks should try and keep using their new Impact units,,,as much as they can.
You need hours on it by using to get more familiar with it.
Like in the neighborhood of 100 for experienced to maybe 2-300 hours for folks with less experience.
Don't let this disgust you,,,in the meantime while learning folks will undoubtably find some good targets,,and yes you will dig more than your fair share of iron and nails.
I expect fully to see some nice coins discovered,,,smaller gold jewelry,,smaller gold coins, small cuff buttons while using Impact.
Some folks may be thinking well,,,this is just old tech,,no real threat of using and pulling the goods.
These particualr folks are in for a big surprise.
And IMO,,,I wonder if the Nokta CoRe, Makro Racer 1 and 2,, Nokta Relic detectors wouldn't have never been made and sold in USA,,juat how many more nice finds could be had with Impact.
Folks need to remember,,you go chasing behind detectors like At Pro, Fisher F70/75, Makro Racers,,Nokta Relic, Xp Deus detectors (there are others),, this makes the detecting scenario very challenging,,,you hunt behind other good detectors using Impact,,keep a level head.
This keeping a level head in your thinking is important,,,and realize some sites just aren't going to produce much that have been pounded.
Virgin detected older sites with nails and iron,,,all I can say is hold on,,you certainly could be in for a ride.
One could dig themselves to death in such sites.
When your done,,,the site if sloppy digging is permitted,,may look like an army of gophers has attacked.
To the civil war relic hunters hunting in areas where old building(s) once stood.
You are in for a real treat I'm afraid,,and you really need to reread portions of this thread where I talk about very challenged targets,,and how they can report tonally.
Not every nonferrous target is clean and obvious of its existence using Impact detector,,using all coil sizes.
In a heavily ferrous ridden environment,,don't discount the Impact's meter.
We know we hear it all the time,,let the tone guide you when detecting.
I have used some good detectrors,,Impact's meter,,how it functions,,how it is linked in/with the audio,,it's tendencies--- absolutely the best one I've seen for giving clues for dig/no dig decisions(when trying to depict nonferrous object(s) from ferrous object(s).
Once folks get more time on their units,,and keep exposing it to these iron ridden sites,,,they WILL see what I'm talking about.
The smaller the coil,,the better the meter is to expose heavily masked nonferrous targets used in conjunction with tone(s) provided.
Nokta did their homework with this detector with the meter and how it performs- not perfect but closer to perfect.
