Just had to share a weird thing I saw today on the way to Monterey CA to go beach detecting... As I passed capitola going south on Highway one what do I see on the side of the road? what looks to me a bounty hunter or off-brand metal detector off the side of the road.. I barely glimpsed it.. but sure enough it was a metal detector! I dismissed it and kept going... came back later that day and sure enough it was gone..

Anyone in this area pick it up? If so, what detector model was it?:?:

Strange to see that..

i believe you
On different forums i found quite few stories people forgetting their stuff by the car when packing. A guy from our MD community forgot his detector and than drove over it.
And something similar happened to me once - thankfully the detector was just slidded from the car when i drove off....

What i learned over years of hiking and mountaineering is always check you things behind you! It takes a second. After sandwich break or whatever always look at where your butt was sitting!

LOL it's always "2"

I can believe the story, but I would have been on the brakes and picking it up. There are a lot of detectors that looks similar and I wouldn't want to leave a good one laying on the road.

But if it committed suicide off a vehicle, there is a good chance it wouldn't be good anymore!

But it would be funny to see.

I always thought of setting a computer up underwater and having another diver come across it. I thought that would be funny.

Love to find treasure, sure don't like to lose it!:( Stuff gets expensive...:crying:
I've hit the brakes / or turned around,f or a lot less then a detector. On the side of the road:laughing:

I slammed on my brakes and stopped last night, because I saw something shiny in the road. It turned out to be a new bolt. I would have caused a pileup if I saw a metal detector.

It's funny, I see cheap coolers laying on the side of the highway every day but I have yet to see a yeti cooler in the ditch. I keep hoping to be the first person behind the truck that loses one (because one of those wouldn't last more than about 2 cars passing it!)

My dad, God bless his soul, found a small cooler at an intersection in the grass and it had a full lunch including a sandwich. He went to work and ate it for lunch.

This is actually good for a seperate discussion. The highway workers have to have seen about every possible thing imaginable. I've put the skids on myself and found interesting things. Imagine what those highway guys see every other day. It could be made into a reality show ;-)

 Now that would be a great find, there expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

isnt that there was a post here last summer that a guy left his detector because someone came to him and gave him some tomatoes a few chats later he drove off without his detector. realized wgen he got home. it was an expensive unit.

I have nightmares about this stuff and religiously triple-check that my detector and accessories are all safe and loaded in the car... but sometimes I forget one of the following on the way to a hunt: Headphones, Digger / scoop, finds pouch or pinpointer.... crappy days hunting without those! Hunting without the proper gear is a sad affair...

Definitely would have gone back, I might put ID on mine . And hope for return if lost .
