Spent the weekend hunting a pair of old parks. One I have hunted many, many times. Lots of wheat pennies and a pair of mercs. The amount of tokens I got over was crazy! Most are newer car wash and batting cage ones. I tumbled them all up this afternoon and they cleaned up really nice.
While at the park that I have hunted a lot in the past, I came across a deep, solid 17 signal. I usually consider the 17 range as junk, but because of the depth I decided to dig. Out popped a really sweet, old 5 cent trade token. A few feet away, another 17. You guessed it. A second one. I love those old tokens. It was a great weekend of hunting. I found the 2 old tokens in a Utah Token guide book. Less than 30 known. They trade between $50 and $75 dollars. Made between 1900 and 1922. Thanks for looking. __________________ |

Nice hunt SW, congrats on the shiny and the sizeable token haul. I love old tokens and do dig those deeper 14-17 signals as well. I had a token haul early last year. A bunch of Zodiac tokens with suggestive pose's on them. When I realized they were used for an illegal activity in a lifestyle I personally disagree with I pitched them. Actually gave me the willy's, needless to say I don't hunt the area any more. Glad to see you're able to still hunt. Good luck, Mark

Great hunt and the tokens are a real treat! I especially like the octagon shape. The Mercs are always a nice addition too. Hope you can find more on a return trip.

Fantastic token haul, SW - especially the two oldies! Tokencatalog.com has about the same valuation on them, calling it $49. But that's just based on public sale info (ebay, etc.) from several years ago. With less than 30 known, their value might well hit into the triple digits with the right collector in a private sale...$75 might be the low end, even in dug condition.
Anyways, I love seeing those old tokens! Unique local history packed into every one, making them far more interesting - and more valuable - than the usual silver coin! __________________ Oldest coin: 1834 Matron Head Large Cent (Honorable Mention: 1857 Flying Eagle Cent)

Because there are so few tokens from that town, some collector's will pay a premium for the type I found to fill a spot in their collection. As we all know, it comes down to what someone is willing to pay. For now, I'm just going to hold on to them and admirer 'em. ![]() __________________ |

I also love old tokens. Recently I found one for a Post Exchange at Camp Stewart (now Ft Stewart). The token and a bottle paid $.05. Big bucks back then.
