Here is a picture of the coil weight sent to me for the floating issue with the standard coil. The clamps are plastic.

lead shot

Is what is inside that tube. The one I recieved last year worked OK, but I never really had a major problem with my coil. If you hunt in salt water, the coil is much to floaty and needs the weight. A small sock with velcro sewn on each end filled with sand will work, and attaches and detaches fast. Using metal, like lead is ok, but needs to be secure to the shaft or coil so there is no movement....Gil

Lead pellets

Hmmm...Is the PVC pipe filled with lead? I might try my hand at making one.

I think it has lead pellets and then the caps were glued on. I would think Velcro straps would work fine. It doesn't show in the picture but they filed the caps half round to fit against the shaft ,
