Hi there! I just started my hobby in detecting by buying the MineLab Equinox 800. Prior to this, I am a gold prospector and you can find me every year up Roaring Camp Mining Company. I have a supervisor at work that is very involved in a local detecting group so I'm thankful I have him as a resource. My first trip will be up to Mammoth, CA with some friends who fish. While they fish, I want to get my feet wet with my new detector. I plan on hitting the beach first to get trained up on some trash finds, coins, and jewelry if I'm lucky.

Well yes, of course. New hunters in CA need to be informed of the rules. They're quite simple actually :

Mammouth

Your first hunt in the mountains, nice. Campgrounds, ski slopes, and the lakes around there should work. I've hunted the Hot Springs on Hot Creek and got a few keepers but nothing great. Oh, welcome to a great hobby, and site.
