Been hitting road-side pull-outs, or is it roadside pullouts? Either way, they're not easy digging, compacted gravel usually. Why? I tried a few out and found some silvers and wheats, so I'm going to keep trying them, for lack of better places too I suppose.
Today, first time at this spot, HUGE area, there's a chainlink fence keeping me out of where I'd really like to go and may just some day walk through the gaps or open gates if it's low-key enough.... anyway....
Hard detecting, gotta go slow and really listen, I don't know why - easy to pass over a surface dime at this location for whatever reason

Got a good high tone, through the gravel and into the dry clay/dirt out came obvious silver dime, put a smile on my old mug.

I usually brush the loose gravel aside with my foot, take the Lesche horizontal to the top of the hardpack and brush it side to side, somehow loosens up the gravel then if needed, I'll try and dig down some more. That's the hard part.
