Hey Guys, me and my buddy were walking along a river doing some detecting and we came across the old county dump! we found quite a few whole bottles on the surface, and only about an inch under. there was a lot of broken glass (cobalt blue), china, and a few other odds and ends. Alot of these bottles seem to be medical. Also Found a Cast Iron Piggy Bank No coins in it..A lot of Ants though..I will have pics of it posted soon, but here is a link to the same one i found.. that isnt rusted http://www.etsy.com/listing/64642422/vintage-cast-iron-pig-bank . On the way out we met an old timer who walked the area frequently, and had told us the dump had been used for close to 150 years, until they stopped dumping in the early 60's. Most of them aren't very old, I think the Oldest one is from 1944 ( The Parke Davis and Company bottle PD& Co from what i know) The most interesting one by far though, i think is the Old Kodak Bottle. WATCH OUT FOR TICKS THIS YEAR; at least here in Michigan, they are bad; i had 2 of those buggers burrowed into me from just a couple hours out there. I haven't researched all of these only a few.

For all you folks who dig for bottles, how do you go about it? do you use a prod to feel for what you think are full bottles? i was just using my digger and slowly scrapping away layers of dirt and leaves, hoping for whole bottles.

Nice finds. I imagine the Kodak bottle had chemicals for processing pictures. That is really cool. Not sure about the best way, but I think I would pick a spot and slowly work my way down as you were doing. Once you get down a foot or so, I bet you will find some real keepers! Great pics. Let us know what else you find :)

Parke-Davis Company drug bottle

I think that your bottle with black P&D Co. is Parke-Davis Company of Detroit. P&D is a Detroit drug manfacturer until this company was bought by a major pharmactical company I cant remember its name. I believe that your P-D Co. bottle dated from 1930s or 1940s juding on its black bottle cap shown in your picture on your thread. Hope it help you!!! James;)
