I went to an area today next to the American River, about 2 miles from historical downtown Sacramento (Old Sac). There are hundreds of acres of "wilderness" that requires hiking or biking in. I took my bike on the American River bike trails and dug in very wet ground after the recent storms. Very muddy. Staying away from the homeless encampments, there was very little trash to dig - no bottlecaps or pop tops.
Anyway, I found a spent Remington UMC .401 SLR cartridge and a "P" stamped .22 cartridge. As far as the Internet can tell, they are both probably from the early 1900s. I think. I also found this big object about 14 inches down.
I'm excited to get back out there when the weather is better and the ground is dryer.
