Dug this object from the yard of a 1901 house. Very deep.

When I pulled it out It was coated in dirt and I thought it was a metal car. The wife thought it was a train car. BUT when I washed it, I realized it’s neither and I have no idea what it is.

Any ideas?

That is an interesting find. Did first think of wind-up toy buy looked at it closer with other's suggestions.

Maybe a powered rolling 'barn door' opener.
A motor could have been in the large round hole.

Just guessing but that's the fun of What is it posts.

That is 100% the motor from train (Lionel, American Flyer) as I had them.
