This dime is from my brothers collection. One of the digits of the date is just not there. Does anyone have any idea of what it could be and the value?

In the first photo I'm seeing 1833 but in the second picture it looks like it could be an 1813. Unfortunately it has very little numismatic value IMO. Gotta love capped bust coins though, thanks for sharing!

It seems unlikely that it is an 1813, as I do not see that date listed.

I think it is worth a bit more than melt -- I just use the PCGS price guide; for your coin: https://www.pcgs.com/prices/detail/capped-bust-dime/94/grades-1-20

You will have to grade it yourself, but lets say its a 2 or 3, and you deduct something for the damage, I would speculate about $15-20, but of course it is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Another good way to determine value is to search for comps on EBay.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Please excuse my delay in reply.
Now I have a better handle on this coin where before I had zero clues.
I can't help but wonder if this was a restrike gone bad and valuable from that standpoint but I think more likely it has to be either a 1823 or an 1833 that is damaged. And worn slick.
Thanks again guys!
