I found this behind a service station that has been in the same location since at least the 1930s. It's about 3" and the front has diagonal raised lines with rivets between them. Back is the other side of the rivets and what may be the remains of a bracket. Wondering if it was automotive due to where I found it... any ideas? Thanks!

Don't know what it was from, or if it was automotive related, but it looks like a hub/central bracket type object. Those diagonal lines are slots where protruding wire rods were clamped. They were fanned out to form something??

It looks like a flag holder. They use to have them for the Model T. it fastened to the radiator cap and held 5 little American flags

Somehow I missed that those rays are indeed hollow at the end - I think you nailed it. I'll bet some insignia or flag badge was in the empty spot at the bottom Thanks!
