I found my first gold today! It's a necklace that I chopped into about a dozen pieces.
Whats the best method for cleaning up scrap gold? Or good gold for that matter?

Thanks!

cleaning gold

soak in warm water. Take some dish soap and a toothbrush soft scrub with glee..! LOL:laughing:

Scrap gold shouldn't have to be cleaned. Some 10K gets a little tarnished but 14, 18, and 22 look absolutely new. I have found rings as old as 1879 and as shiny as the day they were made.

Just soap and water and a toothbrush. If its tarnished very bad and its marked gold, my suspicion would be its a fake mark.

It's a herringbone necklace and is encrusted with dirt. Just trying to figure out a gentle way to dislodge the worst of the crud without tearing it into more pieces than I've already cut it into.
