How can you clean up cruddy old wheats? Dug some up yesterday that were horrid and like to have never gotten the date on one. Considering they are already circulated and therefore not pristine is it safe just to tumble them with my clad pennies?

I have some that were cruddy and barely readable. No key dates and I just cleaned them with my clad and they came out looking better.

i clean them with my clad but check them more ofter so they dont get shinny. Just clean them long enough to get all the crud off.

olive oil

Caution do not clean coins that you think are valuable. Take them to professional. For others soak them in olive oil for a few days. Put a wooden tooth pick in the olive oil too (this will soften the toothpick and help prevent scratches). After a few days remove one coin and toothpick. Use tooth pick to scrub the surface of the coin. Good luck
