Hi,

The object weighs 12.1 Grams and is 2cm in diameter.

Found in the same area where Roman, Byzantine and Islamic coins where found. I thought it might be a scale weight but I have never seen such top surface etching before.

any help in Id'ing is appreciated.

Thanks!

I would have guessed scale weight, but I don't know if they have hollow bases (I don't have any in my collection). I don't think it's deep enough to be a good thimble.

Just yesterday I saw a scale weight of similar shape. The weight was stamped at the bottom inside. Of course it was much newer but still..

If not a scale weight how about a gaming piece?

The surface looks like it's been hit repeatedly with the a chisel or had something like wire run over the top that was in motion. Interesting.

Hmmm.. A game piece? That sounds interesting, I would look into that.

Would this have been something that was carried wiht a person or soldier?

I like these threads they can turn out to be very educational.
