I just bought a really sweet double tumbler from Harbor Freight. I have some aquarium gravel, but it is blue...will the blue come off onto the coins during the process? Also, does sand work as well?

I had some multicolored crushed gravel.
I think the jagged edges clean better.
In time the color falls off no threat to the coins.
Sands alittle messy, I wouldn't pour it down the drain.
Tumble and rinse, tumble and rinse, tumble and rinse for best results.

As stated earlier, no, the gravel coloring will not stick to the coins. I have purple gravel, and experienced the same thing. After reusing the gravel about 10 times the coloring is completely gone. Also as stated earlier, I'd stay away from sand, simply because you don't want that going down the drain and clogging up the plumbing.

In case you haven't tried this yet, I recommend getting a kitchen strainer that has smaller openings than the gravel you're using.

Personally I prefer the plastic type. Just dump the tumbler contents into it at the utility sink and run water through it, then pick out your coins and pour the gravel back into your tumbler - painless process...
