I knew it was going to be a giant target but man what a signal! Easy dig and not deep so I had to look.
I turned up this Chief. He is wearing a full headdress and a wing rising above him. My first thought was a hood ornament or radiator cap but it is very heavy.
Anyone have an idea?

Pontiac also had chrome Indian hood ornaments and a model called the chieftain in the fabulous 50s.

older radiator caps were heaver in those days. The weight of the cap acted like a spring loaded modern radiator cap. When the radiator pressure got up to lift the weight it relieved. Radiator systems require pressure to allow a higher temp to keep from boiling over.
