These are some finds from a recent Chicago Park hunt . Found a buttload of junk/bottle caps, $5 in change, a toy car, a working $50 activity tracker....and....
Went to up on a big hill early in the morning, and was just reaching the top, when I saw another detectorist. It's kind of an annoying personality flaw I'd like to get over, but rather than say hi, I just kind of shyly changed my trajectory and detected in a different direction. Doing so lead me to detect a very wet iphone in the grass. After I got home I put it in a bag of uncooked rice to dry it out, and after about 3 days it actually turned on!
Even though it was password protected and locked, through some serious CSI style sleuthing from my wife, we figured out the owner and returned it!
Guess how long it had been sitting face down in the grass? SIX DANG MONTHS!!! Survived a freakin' Chicago winter basically unharmed without a scratch on it. INSANE!
----------------------------------------------------------
And just to avoid writing another post, about a week later...found a pretty neat copper/brass ring in another park and in the process somehow (eye-spotted and returned) another lost iphone left in the grass!
Didn't get a reward for either...but that's not something I like to force. Hopefully they got some pics/important info returned to them.
